2025/10/8: Colecovision: Creature of the Night (SGM), Zombie Incident (SGM)

Postby VideoGameCritic » October 8th, 2025, 6:05 pm

Here are two more Halloween-ish reviews for your reading pleasure. Note that these are pretty advanced and designed to play on systems with the Super Game Modules. I was able to play these as ROMs on my CollectorVision Phoenix console.

That's what the (SGM) moniker is for. I don't want people trying to play these on a regular Colecovision and getting mad at me when they don't work.

Anyway, let me know what you think of these reviews, and if they deserve to be in the Halloween special.

I am so jealous that you have the Collectorvision console. I wanted one, but they were sold out.

So it is intriguing, of all the great titles that come out for it, you managed to get these two turkeys. Well, I guess they are unique titles. When I saw the creatures of the night, I thought of the Kiss album from 1982. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSqKw32B320 The actual game looks very underwhelming. The Coleco was such a great games console when it came out.

I think I would have gone for Arkanoid and Scramble from Collectorvision games. Though hardly original, I think I would have got a kick out of them. Super Cobra for Coleco was fun, if a bit easy.

Unlike Blasteroid, I think it’s pretty cool the Critic tried a couple of unique, and hardware pushing new homebrews for the CV. While I know the CV was designed with arcade ports in mind, having fresh and original titles like this, especially pushing the hardware as far as they do, is awesome!

The unfortunate thing about these two titles is that you need a Collectorvision Colecovision to play them. Meaning essentially that a very small number of people can enjoy the dubious honour of sampling these two converted games. They are not actually new home brews. They are conversions of older games.

Children of the night is also a MSX game but I think it might be a MSX 2 game. I might need to research it more on that point.

Zombie incident came out on the 3DS. Though that is a conversion in itself as this was originally a MSX game.https://videogaming.fandom.com/wiki/Zombie_Incident_(Game) History of the Zombie incident.

Note to the Critic. You have the name of the first game wrong. It is Children of the night. https://collectorvision.com/games/childrenofthenight.php Link to the collectorvision site.
