My only gripe is that I’m always fearing a guest review will be polarized, because the guest reviewer is passionate enough to have done a review. So it’s gonna be an A+ or an F-. The player got HOURS into this game, which tells me it’s a D at worst.

I had a word with a friend who has VR controls for the PC version. He says it works well in VR but is still clunky due to the controls but has got better over time. He does confirm, like I suspected, that it plays better as an MP game. I played it with him on PC, but not with VR. I hated it and I think after our 1-hour session I never played it again. So I agree with the F but I also agree with the D. Let me explain.
I was rubbish at it, like Sea of thieves and it put me off the game. So in my mind both games were an F. Then we have to consider that I played SOT as a one player game and it is a MP game. Then even though I played the game as MP game I was playing as a 1 player coz it was so bad at it. Though listening to my pal, it does seem like a D plus type of game.
I love DaHeck's reviews as they are conversation pieces. We can agree and we can disagree but they give us a lot of room to discuss.

I know some people mentioned it was meant for multiplayer, but I can't imagine how that would improve the gameplay. If anything, I'd think it was be less scary because there's less isolation.
Sounds to me like a VR tech demo with not much game underneath.

The thing is Critic is it is set up for MP. So you work as a team to do tasks. It is the hearing that makes it scary. OOOO a ghost has got me, I am dead. Then you know it is on your trail. Online MP when it is done right makes all the difference.

I never played it in multiplayer, but the majority of things I've read about it supports what the critic says. The most common take I've found is that it goes from being a legitimately scary and atmospheric horror game to a "see how fast you can get your friends murdered by ghosts" simulator.
