I'm tired of EA putting out mediocre football games, and I'm tired of people making excuses for them.

I agree wholeheartedly.  I checked out some gameplay videos of Madden 13 to see if it was worth picking up and it looks terrible.  The only thing that I thought was cool was how good the commentators look while talking prior to the opening kickoff.

Why is it 8 years later and just about everything STILL pales in comparison to 2K's NFL 2K5 on the friggin original XBox?

"Despite an abundance of bad calls by refs..."

I guess Madden 13 has replacement refs, too.

Funny, my brother said this was the best Madden in years.

Although his praise was, "It's almost as good as NFL 2k5 now."

Sad

Nice review. Thank you for saving me $60! I almost bought this game based on reviews from other sites although I had my suspicions. Also, there is a typo....

"Madden 13 has more bugs than Indiana Jones....."

Not "that Indiana Jones..."

Great read, very funny and informative.

Great review. I am not satisfied with this year's effort. EA has had this game for how many years, and they still can't get anything right. All they have are these terrible gimmicks. Give me back my damn franchise mode!

Maybe the elimination of franchise mode is to boost online multiplayer?

Ahhh I think you may have hit on something there.  There's no doubt that EA's ultimate goal is to force everybody on-line, so they can nickel and dime everyone and basically hold everybody hostage.

Considering EA's recent track record, I think the company will self-destruct before they ever get that far.

EA and online... well the only problem there is that they turn the servers off after a couple of years.
Need for speed pro street... have a multi player game?  Turned off the servers rendering half the game useless.
I hear the first army of two has went a similar way...

thanks for the review... I have not bought and American football game since the Xbox days.  I think they just got complex for me...

Critic, I notice you haven't reviewed the Wii versions since 2008 I believe.  I can't vouche for them myself, but there's a review of the latest one at Nintendoworldreport that becomes something of an editorial.  The guy makes some interesting points about the Wii version, not the least of which that it is designed for in-the-same-room multiplayer.

Maybe you should give it a try.  Here's the review:
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/31441

I'm almost tempted to try it.
