Slowdown? On a game like that? Is it emulating a Dreamcast at the same time or something?

I like this review a lot, it is always nice to see some classic 2D shumps released outside of Japan. I found it odd that the game was prone to slow down though... Especially considering that the DC version didn't have it (according to you, don't know too much about the game though). You would think the PS3 would be able to play it even better... Odd...

I don't think separating the rotation and movement in a two-stick approach which befit the game - the system of locking in works really well and gives the game quite a different flavour to the twin stick shooters. One thing I liked (Dreamcast version) was the way the continue and life system worked - with you going back to checkpoints, not just continuing direct from where you are like with most shmups. It gave each section a challenging feel and you had to overcome each one, it was impossible to complete the game by just credit-feeding.

Well I have it for the 360 and it sounds like it is superior to the PS3 version. I do think that your review is incomplete. This is why.
Firstly we have four versions of the game. The arcade/DC with noticeable but welcome slowdown. Then we have Arcade extra. New version which is in glorious full screen with no slow down. Plus they have ramped up the difficultly level which is good. Then you have the New extra mode. So what is this extra mode? Well it is it is a mirror image of the game with different colour graphics.
Now there is more than one helicopter which is selectable and this can make such a difference when playing the game. Some of the bigger ones also have an extra shot that can be charged up. The twin sticks option is excellent and works so well on the xbox. Perhaps it is because the analogue sticks work that much better than ps3 ones. Though I am not sure.
Lastly you get a great soundtrack disc free with the game. Plus a huge manual. If you put it to twin sticks and play it for over seven hours you get free play. Plus you can play two players at the one time. You get an enormous amount of fun. A plus.
