Here are two high-profile NES titles a lot of people may be interested in.

Contra Force is a game I've been reviewing forever.  I tried to give it every chance, but the game is a lost cause.

Duck Tales may be slightly overrated, but it's still a solid platformer.

It's funny that you thought Ducktales was challenging.  I haven't played it since I was in high school, but I remember back then, I rented the game and finished it within an hour.  I'm guessing I probably couldn't do that today.

I think it is worth noting that Contra Force was never actually planned to be a Contra title until the original title Arc Hound was cancelled in Japan. Konami basically decided to make it a Contra game when it wasn't originally supposed to even be related to the series. Otherwise, these were solid reviews.

What's Arc Hound?

Duck Tales is a solid, creative title from Capcom. The pogo stick was a nice touch.

My only complaint is that you have to backtrack to one of the stages multiple times.

It's supposedly the original game that was cancelled, later to become Contra Force.

I thought you were too hard on Contra Force. There had to be a decent game underneath the technical limitations, right? Now that I've replayed it flicker free on an emulator, I swear I must be schizophrenic, because nothing could be this evil and still sold to kids without Acclaim being involved...

Who thought it was a great idea to use sprites to model environmental damage on a system that slows down when too many sprites are involved? Why do the sprites re-appear if I need to backtrack? How can I miss and still hit someone? What happened to my rate of fire? Why are barrels only explosive when they're not trying to kill me?

If this wasn't called Contra, we wouldn't even be talking about it. Honestly, retrogamers can have a more authentic Contra experience by playing Lilo and Stitch on the GBA, if they're that desperate...

I'm surprised that you didn't mention the ridiculous, unfair difficulty in Contra Force. Maybe there's no room with everything else wrong with it.

Long ago I played the first two Contras on the NES, then went on to play Contra III on the SNES.  At the time, I barely noticed Contra Force even existed.  It's kind've like one of those straight to video movies that sneak by you (ex., Starship Troopers 2).

Notice they called the SNES release Contra III.  Konami doesn't even want to recognize Contra Force, and it's their own game.  Then again, it may be because Contra Force is too different from the other ones to be counted as part of the series.

Duck Tales is one of my favorite NES games, and I've been playing it since the late 80s, since the age of 10 or so. I love that game way too much. It'll always be an A or A+ for me. I think your rating of a B is pretty right on though. I suppose there are parts that are a little tough, specifically certain precise pit jumps on some levels.

I have to agree with Den. I like Duck Tales, but when I was a kid(12-13),I rented this and beat it in one night. Fun game for sure.
