Mortal Kombat Blu-Ray Round-Up

Interesting write-up, though I personally disagree that the over-the-top gore would come across as "silly" on the big-screen.  I for one would LOVE to see those brutal violent fatalities in a film, so i'm all in favor of a reboot.

I also disagree that Annihilation is "indefensible" I personally find it to be a pretty entertaining sequel with some good fight scenes(they didn't look "fake" to me, I like lots of wirework) and decent special effects(far from the worst i've seen at least, they certainly look better then the stuff you see in a lot of films today, Pompeii for example had absolutely dreadful CGI).  The dialogue was kind of silly admittedly, but for me it wasn't bad on the level of say the dialogue in the Twilight films, and I thought the acting was mostly OK.

Mortal Kombat Blu-Ray Round-Up

These were fun reads, I really did enjoy the first MK film. I remember watching it when it first came out and I loved it.

As for your request, I noticed these mistakes:

1. unceremiously? Do you mean unceremoniously?
2. "Apparently he was adamant about keeping the film on schedule, because each scene was clearly shot in a single take." You don't need the comma before the word "because".

I noticed some other things but I don't think any of them were flat out wrong. I personally use a lot of commas when I write but I don't believe what you wrote was technically wrong; I think I just have a preference for using commas all over the place. There might have been some errors in past and present tense though. If you want I can do a much more thorough peer edit and PM it to you. It might take a couple of days though.

Anyway, it was a fun read. Thanks.

First off:

"...a new Mortal Kombat film should open in early 1937 to coincide with the release of Mortal Kombat 19."

I'm going to assume you meant 2037 instead of 1937 (although at first I
thought that you were making a joke that I just wasn't understanding).

Otherwise, good write-up. I just watched the original Mortal Kombat for the
first time about a year ago. I thought it was about as good as could be
expected considering the source material, budget and the necessity of a
PG-13 rating. The movie that I would compare it to the most in terms of
tone and approach is probably the first TMNT movie, although I definitely
prefer that movie to this one. I don't know if I liked it well enough to watch
it again or not. I'm pretty hard on movies in general and as much fun as parts
of it were (the second Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight is a highlight), it already
feels very dated and clumsy. I'm sure 13-year-old me would have loved it in the
theater, though.

I've never seen Annihilation, but I'm a fan of "so bad it's good" movies and the
parts I have seen at 3am definitely make it look like one of those. I didn't watch
the web series but I did see the original pitch video that the director used to
get himself the job. It's slickly-directed and certainly gruesome enough, but you
can feel the strain of trying to create "realistic" origin stories for these outlandish
fantasy characters. Maybe I'll pick the DVD up on the cheap one day.
