Shmup fans will probably want to take a look at this one.

Nice review Critic! Where did you find this game if you don't mind me askin?
I feel like this site used to have a ton of shump fans...but it seems many of the members interested in them no longer post here. At least that's how I feel. Maybe there are plenty of shump fans, but they're just not posting about the genre that much. I hope that's the case.
Critic, what do you think was the best shump from the Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 generation? Any particular disc that fans should pick up without hesitation?

I love the fact that a lot of the import shmup's that you have reviewed have been region free. Since shmups are such a niche market these days not having to deal with modding your playstation (or however you typically play import games on the PS3) is a nice feature. This looks hard as hell but pretty fun. Thanks for the review.

You can buy Ketsui off Amazon. Just be sure to get the PS3 version, and not the 360 version (which I believe is NOT region free).
No shmup really stands out for me. As for one that stands out, nothing is coming to mind. Most of these games tends to be very similar.

I really don't get how these modern STGs are the same in terms of gameplay mechanics; that generation for this genre has never had deeper scoring mechanics and variations before now. In Ketsui, you can earn more points for defeating an enemy by getting closer to it. Cave's games, in particular have unique ways to score higher points. There are numerous guides for how to grasp these mechanics.
Ironically, I feel this genre has gotten more diverse compared to other genres, which most developers are dead set to play it safe 90 percent of the time.
