My first Gameboy was the GBC, and that was after it had been out for a few years, I then bought a GBA soon after it came out.  That said I still did buy several original Gameboy games and got plenty of enjoyment out of them.

Tron-"closet Gameboy hater"?[confused] i'm sorry but that just sounds completely and utterly ridiculous and I highly doubt it's remotely true.  He enjoyed two of these games well enough, hardly what i'd call a "hater"

I own several different Game & Watch, Octopus being one of my favorites. The GB/GBC comps are pretty good if you're into old school scoring, yet I can see how hard it'd be to get into those today for the first time. Anyways, it's good to have original GB reviews at long last, did you purchase the original system?

The original Gameboy is a great example of a system which demonstrates improved games over time as developers became more adept at harnessing the power of the system

A good comparison is the first Super Mario Land which looks (and plays) more like the original Super Mario Bros and the later Super Mario Land 2 which is far graphically superior and plays (and looks) like Super Mario World.

The first generation GB games are fun to play but you can definitely see improvement over the lifespan of the Gameboy.

Glad to see Dave starting to review the games.

As for a Microvision, I own three (2 boxed) and all of them exhibit the screen-rot issue and are not playable.
Good to see the Game Boy reviews, especially the excellent Donkey Kong, though I don't agree with the F on Game And Watch Gallery and, honestly, putting that aside, it doesn't really sound like an F review based on what you said about it.  Usually, your F reviews have a level of rancor or unforgivable game flaws that emphasize a hatred of it that this one lacks.
Well, I did say these were the kind of mini-games that put people into mental institutions.  Not exactly a glowing endorsement!

I did not get an original GB.  However, the B&W carts play on my GBA SP.  Plus I have Super Game Boy (SNES) and the Game Boy Player (GameCube), which really magnifies the action.  So I think I'm pretty much covered.

You're right! What was I thinking? Here I thought I was on to something & you were able to dismiss my ideas with your profound wisdom. Surely since he enjoyed two of these games well enough he couldn't possibly be a hater as I suggested. Thank you vexer for showing me how completely and utterly ridiculous my suggestion was. You've set some mighty high standards for what constitutes excellence, but I'll continue trying in hopes that someday I'll aspire as you have so graciously done.

Tron-Sarcasm! Very clever and original![rolleyes]

You're jumping to conclusions based off very little evidence, just cause the critic didn't get around to reviewing original GB games until now dosen't automatically make him a "hater", that's a rather ludicrous assumption to make, and your suggestion is completely and utterly ridiculous if you ask me.

I will try to keep my "high standards" and "excellence" up, if you want to "aspire", may I recommend not using sarcasm?

Thank you! Loading up your website was like a small holiday - who knew there would be gifts? For so many of us, the original Gameboy/Gameboy Color line was our first taste of all portable gaming offered. Even when it looked like pixelated pea soup, it could compete with the best 8-bit libraries ever made.

Critic, I know you might never get around to it (and understandable so, with how much backlog is currently on your plate), but if you do ever get around to working on a new portable, I'd recommend checking out the N-Gage. I know that's worth a chuckle at first, but I've added it to my collection recently and been pretty impressed with some of the games it had for it.  Let's put it this way, it's no Game Boy Advance, but it's light years ahead of the Game.com.  I also find it to be superior to the Neo Geo Pocket.  I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by it, like I was.  Plus, considering the giant list of systems that you cover, the N-Gage is probably the only missing system that normal, non-collecting gamers have possibly heard of (except maybe, for those that know their history, the Magnavox Odyssey).  Now's a good time too, because most N-Gage games remain very cheap (even sealed).  Of course, I know you probably have tons of Game Boy games to review before you even think about another portable system, but I figured I'd throw it out there while the topic was hot.

The NGage never really caught my attention, even as a diehard collector. I've always felt it had very little going for it. That said, I'm pretty open to suggestions, I wouldn't want to miss out on some hidden gems. Put it this way, could you name some good names worth owning on this system? If interested, I might get around and actually snatch a system. Just because I've always dismissed it doesn't mean it's objectively bad, kindly let me know your thoughts.
