I'm not a Star Fox fan, though I did finish Star Fox 64, but it's weird seeing the 3DS version get a C while the N64 version got an A. Did you play the N64 one at all before reviewing this one?
I usually don't believe in stupid questions, but that was a stupid question and arguably a rhetorical one.

The VGC does not review games he did not play thoroughly, and unless the review noted a guest reviewer writing it, then the VGC wrote the review.  Therefore, it should be obvious that the VGC played and reviewed Star Fox 64 in 2006; therefore, he did "play the N64 one" before "reviewing this one".

Three great reviews.  I am not keen on comic book heroes any more.  Though you make Batman sound just as good as it should have been.  Centipede.  Now here is the thing it is a classic and Millipede is as well.  The updates of the game never carry over the charm and excitement of the original.  Maybe that is because you do not have a roller controller to play with it.  I played the original Star Fox it was great.  I had hoped the 3ds game would be great.

Good reviews, the Batman game looks awesome. I'm honestly surprised people still consider games like Centipede worth re-surging... They've been done so many times, and so many times poorly, that it doesn't seem like people would really throw out money for these games anymore. Still, good reads. Thanks.

I have not played Star Fox 64 recently, no.  However, I think I can explain the discrepancy.  Star Fox 64 was a stellar title for the N64 that really took full advantage of the system (and introduced rumble feedback to boot).

You would think it would be just as good on the 3DS but it's not.  As I mentioned the 3D effects and gyroscopic controls just didn't work well.  I think I would prefer to play the game on the N64.

Also, keep in mind that any N64 ports are almost certainly not using the original game code.  The original N64 versions were coded in assembly (from what I've read), so for ports such as this they have been re-coding them from the ground up in C.  They try very hard to reproduce them as close as they can get (right down to replicating any "bugs" that were in the originals).

There are articles on the net about how the N64 Zelda game was recoded for the 3DS.  I'll let you search from them.

So it's entirely possible that the N64 versions of these games "feel" better, and thus deserve higher grades...

I personally thought the 3-D effects worked very well, never tried out the gyro so I can't comment on that.

I find that the 3D works best in games where I can hold the system perfectly still.  This is hard to do with shooters.
