Why do they call American football football when only the kicker kicks the football. Because football is not soccer.  After all they have football boots.  Perhaps the Americans place football in their socks and that is why they went out to the Belgium's when they should have beaten them.
Perhaps not.  I hope Clive Dempsey is playing in Europe next season he was immense.
They also call it Gaelic football in Ireland, Australian Rules football in Australia, Canadian Football here in Canada,, and I believe in many rugby leagues the ball is called a football.  During the last World Cup a guy was on CBC radio with an editorial about how he's tired of everyone saying "everyone else calls soccer football."  No, there are other places that call "gridiron" football, and a lot of places who don't call football "football" or "soccer."

As for the reason, perhaps it is called football because the game is so obsessed with measurement and uses the old imperial measurement system.  Maybe foot refers to the measurement and not the body part.  Of course, by that theory, it should be called "Yardball."  [smile]

Astrosmasher- I know, i've just heard people complain about it so often elsewhere that it gets a bit annoying.

Has anyone played the 32x version ? I can't decide if it's a brilliant evolutionary step between the Genesis and PS1 football titles or just a mess.
