Good old Shadowgate. I've always been a fan and it was a lot of fun back in the day, although I did get hopelessly stuck. Have you played Beyond Shadowgate for the T16/Duo? It's a direct sequel to this game and it even references the final scenes into the introduction for the game. It's a lot of fun as well but is quite pricy. Definitely one of the more expensive Turbo Duo games.

I liked Shadowgate, but it's true, only with the FAQ.... Really, really hard game.

BTW I clicked on the 'Use your brain'-icon and in this list I missed the Brain Training/Age-games on DS... isn't using your obligatory in those games? [smile]

Sorry you did not enjoy Shadowgate more. Back in the day it got 5 out of 5 stars in Dragon magazine. That was a long running tabletop rpg magazine, especially D&D.

Its a family computer adventure game that got ported, and is different from what made the NES popular. I did it recently with a period $5 hint book to consult if I were stuck...did not need a modern FAQ. Still died a lot. Stupid dragon. Still wondering about a door above an easily broken ledge encountered early on that seems to have no way to get to....

It has one of those Scholastic books, Before Shadowgate. There was a kickstarter remake now on Steam.

I always mix up Shadowgate and Shadowrun.  Back when they came out with Shadowrun on Xbox 360, I heard that it was from the same series as a much older game.  So, for the longest time, I would see Shadowgate in game stores and confuse it as being that "older game".  If I recall, the game is actually called Shadowrun and is on the SNES.  Too many games with Shadow in the name...

True story: when I rented Shadowgate over twenty years ago, I couldn't get past the second screen of the game because of that "open skull" puzzle to get the key.

I spent the entire weekend trying to figure that out, and failed, and had to return the game having made no progress.
