I made a concerted effort to get this James Pond II review out before Christmas.

Comments encouraged!

Thank you Santa VGC for reviewing one of my fave Megadrive games.  Yeah it was a great platformer.  I have been onto your review page and given it and A plus.

You're outta your mind with that James Pond II review.  Here are some great Genesis games you've rated LOWER than James Pond II:

Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 B-
Revenge of Shinobi B-
Sagaia B-
Toe Jam and Earl B-
X-Men 2 Clone Wars B-
Zombies Ate My Neighbors B-
Ghostbusters C+
The Adventures of Batman and Robin C
Dynamite Headdy C
Rocket Knight Adventures C
TMNT: Hyperstone Heist C
Contra Hard Corps C-
Splatterhouse 3 D+

I've played James Pond II and I don't think it's better than any of those games.  It's a solid game and not bad at all...But I don't think I'd rate it anything other than a C or C+.  I think your love of tracking down XMAS/Seasonal stuff to play in the winter has artificially inflated your score!

Glad you liked James Pond 2. It was widely praised in its original Amiga version, and here in Spain's biggest videogames magazine, it dethroned Sonic of its best game spot! While I think this is nuts, it shows that it was very appreciated back in 1991. I'd give it a "B" too.

Did you arrive to those final Christmas levels or beat the game? That's where the Christmas theme is more apparent. Did you try the cheat I mentioned?

Just finished it using the Game Genie invincibility code.  The Christmasy stages were nice (Jingle Bells music) but that last carnival stage was kind of freaky.  Still, a lot of fun to run through the game.

It just goes to prove the old adage: cheating is fun!

At the start of the game there are some objects just above you. If you pick them in order

Cake
H(dont remember)
Earth
Apple
T(dont remember)

It spells cheats and gives you access to all levels and invincibility.

But the game genie method is good too.

I enjoyed these two reviews. I had never even heard of James Pond but now I'm going to be keeping an eye out for it. It looks like it'd be a lot of fun.

I've read that the invincibility only lasts for 10 minutes on the Genesis version.
