Splosion Man re-review?
This is one of the most baffling reviews I've seen on the site. It doesn't seem as though the Critic played this particular game for very long. He mentions that the explosion mechanic is a glorified jump, which it is, but he also implies there's nothing else it's used for, which is simply untrue: it's also used to destroy scenery, deflect missiles, and detonate barrels which propel your character through the air. There's a mild puzzle element to the explosion-jumping as well, since you can only use it so many times at once, and thus a great deal of precision and challenge is involved throughout the game. I also don't get how the stages are "cookie-cutter". Granted, I liked some more than others, but I don't see how they're any more generic than, say, Donkey Kong Country Returns or Tropical Freeze (both of which I also like and are highly rated even on this very site). The weirdest part of all is how Splosion Man is graded lower than Limbo, which I think has MUCH more generic platforming and the Critic even said relies too much on style over substance (not his actual words, but the gist of them anyway), even though Splosion Man is nothing BUT substance. Anyway, rant over; just thought this one might be worth a second look.
