This title is on my short-list of games to get when I get my PS4 in the next month or so. I used to have a Jack Nicklaus golf game on PC many many moons ago that had a course editor function - I'm looking forward to playing around with that.

Thanks for the review!

True there are no real courses included in this game but there is one creator (probably more) that has made true to life creation of Augusta National (Magnolia National), Chambers Bay and also Whistling Straits where they just finished up the PGA yesterday. Now these aren't thrown together courses. This guy took months to create each. If you see how many meticulous bunkers are placed and where you will know what I mean just like the real course. HB Studious have put out like 6 updates since launch and have more coming as they continue to tweak and improve upon and already fabulous game

Be sure to check out tgctours.com as they have a schedule that mimics the real life PGA Tour. You go through q-school and based on your skill level you are placed on the appropriate tour. This is without a doubt the most realistic golf game you will ever play and all for $40 and has roughly 80,000 courses and growing every day.

I'm wondering if the critic should start adding a list of all platforms a game is on, to his reviews, irrespective of whether he has reviewed the games across all platforms?

For instance, to the uninformed, it might seem that The Golf Club and Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour are platform exclusive?

Verm3,
My first response to this was "good idea". Then I remembered that often games will come out on other platforms long after the initial release. It might be hard to stay on top of those.

Still, might be worth considering.

Indeed, but it would perhaps be countered by the review dates in your reviews?

I like every thing I read about this game except for the lack of a 3-click-swing option. I've never embraced analog stick shooting. I know the Critic likes 3-click so if he was able to appreciate the analog stick on this game maybe I can too.

It would be useful to know if a game is on multiple platforms. Would it be hard to add a multiplat icon to reviews?

I'm playing this game now.

The gameplay is pretty great. My only complaint holds true for most golf games and that is I have no problem hitting great drives and irons, but putting is the hard part. I don't mind the hard putting as it takes practice to get the distance down. What bothers me is how easy it is to use drivers & irons.

I love the simplicity of the gameplay, but where are the features/extras? Pick from 5 generic golfers to represent you. No editing face or body, just clothing color. No career mode to give you a sense of progression. Am I stuck with the same power level on my drives no matter how long I play this? How about some skill building?

This feels like a converted arcade game. That would be fine if arcades still existed & this was an arcade game. In 2015 on the PS4 this is pretty sad to see so little options.

The create a course option helps with that tremendously, I get that, but it doesn't excuse the lack of a career mode. I'm going to start a season & see what happens. Maybe I'll unlock options & I'm wrong about all this, though I doubt it.
