I heard what you're saying, but I typically don't like the original review and would prefer it went away.

Understandable. I do appreciate, though, when you mention the former grade here in the "Review Feedback" post, like you did above for SM64. You usually do. But when you leave that out, then we can't help but be curious. It's interesting too when you mention the reason for the change, especially if it's a big change.

Time hasn't been kind for those 3D games from the Psx/Sat/N64 era, even for for a stelar series like Super Mario where there are so many great games.

Mario 64 still is a great game and served as a step stone for not only future 3D Mario games but also any platform 3D game. Sunshine, Galaxy and Odissey kind of perfected the formula, so Mario 64 ended up being in the same position as the NES Super Mario Bros, both served as a blueprint for the series and the sequels took that formula to another level.

The best thing about Mario 64 imo is the gameplay, Mario is so fluid, he can jump, triple jump, wall jump, jump sideways, punch, grab things, slide, fly..., a wide range of movement for a 1996 3D game, now compare it to Tomb Raider where it was hard just to turn sideways, or even to the atrocious Sonic Adventure and it's automatic gameplay.

I’ve been playing this for the first time in years. And I remember where every star is which is cool. But I finally have a realistic view of this. I fully agree now with the VGC’s grade of a B-. There are so many spots in the game where you either miss a jump because of the bad camera angle and have to start all over again, too many to name. One horrible part is in the carpet ride level trying to get the blue coins. Sometimes you’ll be in places all over the game where you can’t even see a close enemy. Some stars you can’t even see where they are. It’s so frustrating to have to start all over like that.

I just wanted to add one more thing. I really think that the game was late and they had to get in done in time for launch. The launch date was already delayed a year. There are basically very few songs, maybe 2. Not being able to use Luigi was ridiculous and maybe it's because the game was late. When you see Yoshi, he gives you 100 lives and that was so lame. I mean within 30 minutes of starting it up you could have 10-20 lives and never get low. It really made no sense. Besides the water music, I think there was only 1 or 2 songs. I really think it might have had to be finished quick. Which is ridiculous considering how small the game is. And the N64 was already delayed a year. I guess Luigi wasn't in Sunshine or Odyssey either. My theory for Mario 64 is that he would've been too fast and the game would have had to be tweaked or something.

SM64 is still one of my favorite N64 games, and one that I feel isn't as dated as most of the early 3D games (Zelda OoT).

I'll admit I've been playing it a bit. But it's almost impossible to play the game and not at least 1 time have some ridiculous camera view screw up a jump. I really think that the game was late and they had to hurry up. It makes no sense to have Yoshi but only give you 100 lives which was pointless and doesn't make any sense besides that the game could have been was hurried up and they thought of things to quickly put in to make launch.
One more thing, maybe I'm crazy but every time I think of a "3d platformer" it always ends up playing like an adventure game. I kind of like adventure games there decent for me but not my cup of tea. When I play SM64 it just feels like an adventure game. I'm not sure 3d platformers are even the right way to describe them. There's so much exploration and collecting which is a bummer. It's like an adventure game. On a side note I played Goldeneye recently and it was a drag. I was totally not into the 1 player.
