Very PC-ish pair here. I never knew Flying Nightmares was such a serious flight simulator; I always assumed that it was more on the arcade side.

Apparently, I've spent too much time with old flight simulators.

I was surprised by how fast Flying Nightmares was. "Holy crap, that's a double digit frame rate!"

Yes!

3DO reviews are the best.

In Panzer General when you do well enough you'll be able to attack Washington! Who wouldn't want to take down those capitalist pigs?

Great review! Unfortunately I have never owned a 3DO and probably won't get one. That being said the review made me go to a YouTube video of it. This is exactly my type of game and I would be all over it if I had a 3DO.. I'm referring to Panzer General.

I remember Flying Nightmares. My late dad loved playing realistic flying simulators on his Macintosh (I think the game was originally developed for the Mac). I booted it up sometimes, but yeah, I found it pretty hard to find out what to do too. Even taking off! But I thought it looked kinda cool back in the day.

I have never played on a 3DO. However, I did play countless hours of Panzer General on my PC back in the early 90's. I would probably rate it a bit higher, maybe a B+ but then again, I think the user interface was much better on a PC. I also find it interesting that all of these old strategy games had extensive manuals which I poured over as a kid/young adult. Great reviews as always.

Love to see these new 3DO reviews! This is the site at its best -- covering every corner of a system's library, even the games most people pass over.

Both games have been sitting on my shelf for a while but I haven't gotten around to playing them, though I think I fired up Flying Nightmares for a few minutes once. The one 3DO flight sim I've put some time into is the stupidly-named VR Stalker. It looks poor, more or less 16-bit with a higher framerate, but I vaguely enjoyed it.

Panzer General sounds fascinating though its sheer depth makes it intimidating. I used to get it mixed up with The Perfect General, which has also been sitting on my shelf, and which was published on the 3DO by the same company that did Plumbers Don't Wear Ties (!!).

I am a huge fan of the 3DO but don't see myself playing these; too PC/Sim type of games for me.

However--very happy to see them covered by you and the 3DO getting some love.

I agree with several of the other respondents...always great to read about anything 3D0 related. It still one of my favorite consoles of all time.
