Strangely enough, just last night I hooked up my housemate's big old PS2 just to play Metal Slug Anthology. I haven't been able to do this for ages as shortly after I bought the game, months and months ago, my slimline PS2's laser broke
So, I experience the lag problem. It always causes me to jump (well, fall, actually, because its failed to respond to my jump button) to my doom on level three of the first Metal Slug. Which is annoying. And I want to go through all the slugs in series order, with a reasonable number of credits, not on free play. I don't think I can do it on 5 credits like you suggest in your review though, Critic!

You're absolutely right, Julio.  I played Metal Slug Anthology on a normal , non flat-screen or HD TV and on my regular version PS2 and I still had the lag, not to mention the hideous load times and framerate hitches that not even the original versions of these games suffered from, none of which I'm willing to forgive.

Just wondering, Critic, which version of the PS2 did you play MSA on? Because it would seem that maybe there's an issue with the game depending on which version of the system its played on (much like the intial copies of Final Fantasy Chronicles having issues with the PSone, but working fine on the old Playstation model).

Wow, now I'm really confused.  The lag I mentioned in my original review was pretty bad, but once I switched to a regular TV I thought it was okay.  I mean, I noticed a slight lag, but I thought I was just being anal retentive.  But if you guys are noticing it I guess it's not my imagination.  If enough people chime in about this I might have to knock it down to an A-.

Sorry, I should mention that I'm playing on a 720P LCD TV with the PS2 going to the TV via component cables, outputting 576i, 60Hz. So I think the lag problem is due to my using an HDTV as the Critic already mentioned. Its a shame since the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology can output in progressive scan and I have no control problems there.

I bought Metal Slug Anthology at release, but just now have gotten around to cracking this open. Does it save high scores? Doesn't seem to be doing so for me, although I would've thought that the Critic would've mentioned such a glaring omission if that was the case.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
