Shining Force was the second Shining game, actually. The first was Shining in the Darkness.

So I'm at Goodwill last April, and they have a few Genesis games in their glass case.  But, for some reason, whoever priced them thought they were worth $6.99 each - and most of them definitely weren't worth that.

However, I spotted one that was worth the price - a complete Shining Force.

(On a more positive note, they also had some NES games at far better prices - $1.99 each. I bought the only one I didn't have, a boxed copy of Solstice).

I went back to that Goodwill a few weeks later, when the color tags on the Genesis games were half off, and bought Boogerman and Socket (both copies only missing their manuals).

I usually enjoy Hawk's reviews but this one sounds more like a tutorial then anything else. I really can't discern why it's a B-. I loved this game and would put at an A- easily. My panties aren't in a bunch about it I just can't reconcile the game. A decent read but one of the weaker entries on the site. Is there a review for Shining Force II in the works? That's a classic!

I agree with MigAlley.  Shining Force is a B+/A- game.  B- is too low for such a well-crafted and memorable experience.  There's no way that having to push an extra button or two in order to activate a few non-battle actions should drop the grade so much.

Yea I have to admit that I didn't love the review either.  Shining Force is a bonafide Genesis classic.  Easily one of the better games you can pick up for the system.

This is another series that Sega has destroyed after an great initial run.  For some foolish reason they decided to turn the series into a terribly generic action rpg...If given enough time there is no reason why the Shining Force Series couldn't rival Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem as one of the titans in the SRPG genre.

Seriously, SEGA has to be one of the worst run gaming companies in the world.  Even worse is that they have some of the best IPs in the business!

This was the the best Genesis game that wasn't on SEGA CD [Sonic CD anyone].This game was more enjoyable than Sonic!

I'd give it an A- at least

I am a HUGE Shining Force fan boy. I love the installments on the Sega Genesis. Shining Force is probably my favorite RPG of all-time, even though the 2nd one for all intents and purposes is "better", the first one will always have a special spot in my heart. Good review!

EDIT: Although, I do want to add that B- is too low. This game should be a B+ or A-, it's not perfect when it comes to reviews sake... to me it's like an A+ but that's my own personal preference talking.
