Feet for Xbox 360/consoles?

Postby C64_Critic » January 7th, 2025, 3:38 pm

I was wondering if anyone had any specific recommendations on what to use for 'feet' to elevate an Xbox 360, in order to give it a little breathing room underneath the console and help keep it a bit cooler. Sure, I could just stick any random objects under it, but I was thinking there was probably some good rubber or silicone spacers that would hold it up between 1-2" or so that would be cheap. Anyone use anything in particular for this kind of thing?

You may want to consider something like these from Amazon (the actual link was too long)

GorillaPads 1 Inch Non-Slip Furniture Pads/Gripper Feet Skids (Set of 32) Self Adhesive Rubber Floor Protectors, Round, Black, CB147-32

Good idea, especially if you have an older model where the “red rings of death” is possible.

What I use: 4 plastic soda bottle caps. Sure it’s not fancy or nice looking, but I used it for years. The same 4 yellow soda caps - probably from some old Mountain Dew bottles - have diligently served as the “feet” for my Xbox 360 for over a decade.

If there's a bunch of junk in an Amazon URL, delete the question mark and everything after it.

I actually like the bottle cap idea; I can't seem to find any of the padded feet that the Critic suggested that are higher than like 1/4" or so, and I was hoping to get the box a good inch or more "up" off the surface. I'd prefer softer silicon/rubber/felt type feet, but they just don't seem to make them with any height to them.

For my modern consoles, I buy modular metal shelving like this example that I quickly pulled off Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKN2CY4X/re ... k_detail_2?

It provides lots of room for the consoles to breath and I can adapt them to my specific needs in a particular spot, adding or subtracting levels as I need. Of course this different approach might not be a good fit for your particular setup, but perhaps it's an option that might work for your needs.

Go for it! I did it as a “quick fix” when I first heard about the overheating issues with the Xbox 360. And then it just stuck for 10+ years after that.

They’re the perfect height. Tall enough to get airflow under the system. But short enough that it’s still stable and won’t fall off.

It's possible to "stack" the feet I was mentioning to give you more clearance.
