I stopped playing 50cc because I was running away with it every race. 100 is more my speed (I'm not great, but am still winning the cups). Anyone know if I'm missing unlocks that way (do I unlock seperate things winning in 50cc)?
I'll soon be comfortable enough to do some online (and lose). I uploaded time trial data for the first course. Anyone else do that yet? If you have I'm going to see if I can download it later this afternoon.

Mario Kart 8: Getting psyched?
I only use 50CC first.. I beat all the 50CC, go through 100CC, and then clear 150 CC. I usually use 50CC to get used to the courses and unlock characters/equipment.

I played through 50cc and unlocked several tires (the reddish monster truck tires and ones that look like buttons come to mind), as well as different gliding things, and a new vehicle body. Come to think of it, those probably all came about due to coins collected...
I guess winning cups unlocked some Koopa kids and 'metal' versions of Peach and Mario. If playing through 100cc doesn't unlock those for you, you may want to blow through the 50cc races, if having a liquid metal T-1000 Mario floats your boat!
Sorry I haven't gotten to try online play with anyone yet. Kind of conflicted between my desire to play games and my desire to do some yard work/drink beer on the back patio. It's beautiful out!

That kind of weekend here too. Hike with my oldest yesterday morning, fire in the yard that evening, and drinking last night with one of the in-laws, then walk with oldest again this morning, then swimming with wife and both kids, then drinks and BBQ with the family and a couple friends, then another fire. It's been hard to fit games in, but I've managed that too. I love when the good weather and long days hit. Especially following the eternal winter we had here this year (started in October and we still had flurries last week).
I took the game online tonight for anyone who hasn't. I was playing with people from the "region" which turned out to include BC and parts of the U.S. To put this in perspective, here in Newfoundland, I'm probably closer to the UK than I am to BC. And, the result: perfectly useable online experience with super fun races. I suggest everyone give it a go. The online is slick and the way you vote on courses is nice (not most votes wins, but rather, most votes means more chances of that course being chosen). I had a lot of fun there so far, and I'm not very good at all. Fighting for 7th out of 12 is pretty great, even if you're not going to place. It's a total crapshow back in the middle and end, and that's just a ton of fun.

Mario Kart 8: Getting psyched?
This question is related to Mario Kart 8, although it's not really topic related; I just don't want to start a new thread over this question.
So here goes: Can you buy Mario Kart 8 now, register with Nintendo and get a new game (Pikmin 3, Zelda, etc), and use the registration for points by July 31 without having a Wii U?
My neighbor bought Mario Kart 8 yesterday for her kids, but she only has a Wii, not a Wii U (she thought the game was for the Wii, and already opened the game). I told her that there are some awesome Wii U Bundles, but she'd prefer to wait until Christmas time to purchase the system. It would be unfortunate not to get the goodies that come along with Mario Kart 8, so I'd like to know if she can register the game by July 31, and get the free game and the points for another game around Christmas time.
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

Re: Do the download codes ever expire?
According to this guy, they do not expire. She could call Nintendo customer service, and confirm this...
