No, I appreciated you sharing what you know. It's good to get an educated perspective.

I assume you're referencing that Bobo toy study. Yeah, that one is the absolute worst.![[smile]](/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif)

I don't know Critic, while I do really like these boards, I'm starting to see them go downhill. Lots of immature conversations about "this console is better than that console". Not real grownup debate.
Again, I really like these boards, much better than IGN, etc, but I can see the quality going downhill.

This is from a moderator on a 'Criticize Nintendo' topic. So he goes right ahead and flames and targets Nintendo fans. So then, that is the cue for the rest of the board - pile on! Because if a mod does it, it is ok, right? These boards are not that good a lot of the time. They could be, but this is outrageous. Nintendo fans have to lick boots or get singled out - every single time.
Critic, you praise the moderators, and that is part of the reason they are a major problem.

That's one of the reasons I'm not too thrilled with Steer's poll suggestions. I can see people with little to no experience with any given system still voting for said system, so that whatever company they're in love with comes out of top. Polls would lead to more fanboyism, and I'd say we've had quite a lot of that lately, from various people, for what it's worth.

This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who!
As Bluenote stated in a previous post, let's try to act as if we're having a face-to-face conversation. Play nice. The internet can sometimes cause civility to go out the window, but if we try really hard, and I mean really hard, I'm sure we can have an insult-free dialogue. For at least 5 minutes.

Yes I agree, as someone who owns many consoles, I don't get the point of this. 12 year old idiots (at least I hope they are only 12 years old or humanity has no hope) flood all the main gaming websites making terrible comments and will let you know you are "gay" if you like game x or system y etc. Its horrible, and I feel like my IQ sinks anytime I read the comments on one of those websites. Its all "ha ha you suck for liking (game x) real men play manly games like (game y)." Yawn... Gamespot even encourages this stupid behavior among the idiot fanboys by creating a forum called System Wars. Why?
Its not just one group of fanboys doing this, there are terrible kids in ALL the fanboy "camps" (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PC...) who will insult anyone (usually with profanity, homophobia, racism, etc) just because they like a different game. I do think this nonsense gives a bad name to gamers everywhere. Its nowhere near that bad here, but I am starting to notice a little bit of it with a few posters here. I do wish it would stop.

It's beneficial for Gamespot to keep people on their site. Although this probably isn't the main reason, the longer it can retain its audience (no matter how dumb), the more it can sell ads and the more it can sell ads for.
Plus, Gamespot doesn't care about meaningful discussions. Its forums are a cesspool of everything wrong with people. In fact, I don't think you can have meaningful discussions on the internet. For any real period of time, anyway.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with creating a section for system wars, as that keeps the subject from invading and derailing other discussions, so I don't think it's "encouraging stupidity".
