It's not a stupid magnet though. It'll still find its way into other discussions.
Essentially, if the idea hasn't been picked up at large by other boards, it doesn't work.

Console wars by and far today aren't the console wars in Magazines and TV commercials.
In other words - console wars are officially a stupid thing. Let's not turn this into everywhere else.

Eh, I woudn't say Gamestop dosen't care about meaningful discussion or call it "cesspool", i've had fairly decent experiences on there myself.

Tribalism it's one of man's basest instincts. It happens with sports fans in regards to their favourite team and the same tribal instinct also comes to the fore regarding video games. You could also make an argument that the who aren't fanboys are a tribe in themselves. It's that human need to belong and that's why you see some of the sometimes illogical and irrational behaviour.
To say Nintendo has the smallest market share and yet provokes the biggest debates on this board is very unusual compared to other boards.
