Boring Games = Boring Magazines
There really is no difference, Sega. I agree with everything you're saying about the quality of Wii U games, but in every case they represent a refinement of existing mechanics. There's nothing new under the sun, just rehashed, rebalanced, and expanded ideas that originate from the NES and SNES eras. It's evolutionary, not revolutionary. That's just what both CoD and Assassin's Creed have done (although I think Nintendo does it better because they had better ideas to build on in the first place).

I will now call you out.
If Nintendo is as predictable as Ubisoft - then tell me, in great detail, what the new Zelda Wii U will be like, and be about. We will bookmark this topic and go back to it when we receive new official information.
You cannot even tell me the controls, brother!

Oh but I can. I'm glad you started with Zelda because it's the most iterative of the bunch. It seems like every new game in the series centers around a new tool, like the hookshot, the masks, or a magical leaf. The gameplay remains almost exactly the same, however. There's always a dark lord (usually Ganon), a princess to save, and a quirky sidekick. Zelda U will be like a 3D Link to the Past or Zelda 1. It will be open-world and you will have the freedom to pursue dungeons in any order. It will have swords, a boomerang, a hookshot, and one new gimmick specific to this game. There will be a dark lord and a princess to save, green pastures, a forest, a mountain, and a desert. Should I keep going?

Sorry, not trying to horn-in on someone else's discussion...but I will![[smile]](/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif)
Steer, I think ptdebate based his opinion on past Nintendo experience. You're trying to poo-poo it by making a vague "I'll betcha" type statement regarding one future installment of a Nintendo franchise. Weak.
I'll make a prediction, Zelda Wii U will involve a lot of wandering around, talking to NPCs, and looking for crap. Just like every other Zelda. Doesn't matter how it will control, or how "refined" or "well crafted" it is, it'll still be...well, not my cup of tea.

To further support my claim, check out the Game Informer covers from the last few years. So dull, gray, and depressing! If anything, most of these make me want to give up gaming!
Now check out the GamePro covers of the past. Talk about eye candy! Wow! You actually want to read these! And I think the covers also reflect the content inside.
Part of the problem is that I believe nowadays companies pay these magazines to feature their games on the covers (free advertising). So instead of a menagerie of colorful images, you just get one "serious" picture. It's depressing.

Look at Sega go, he got away with one grand.
I freaking miss the earlier sixth generation Game Informer. When Retro Reviews were still considered.

This months cover wasn't great, but I think it's hyperbole to say it makes you want to "give up gaming", GI had some pretty nice covers in recent years(loved the one for Tomb Raider). Times change, and I don't see anything wrong with one game being featured on the cover, don't really see how that's "depressing" at all.

This is to vague. I said I want details. Tell me the controls, for starters - you can only stab in the dark.
By contrast, want to see some gameplay from Ass. Creed French Revisionlution? Here it is :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOTQU8FTogA
COD and Ass. Creed are pumped up yearly, use the same engine. Zelda is built from the ground up, every game. So.......what does the unreleased Zelda have in common with the 3DS one that was released last year? Precious little. Completely different games, completely different game engines. Cannot say the same about COD or Ass. Creed.....

Boring Games = Boring Magazines
I think the reason Game Informer sucks so bad is that it is basically a free magazine Game Stop users get. I currently have one, although I only got it because it made the Wii games I bought, cheaper. I miss EGM and Nintendo Power. I used to read EGM over and over again when I was a teen. Especially there #50 and #100 issues where they did the top games of all time. It was one of the first things I read that made me want to play all the old games that I missed growing up.

OK, but here is the difference with Nintendo.
Mario Kart 8 is the best kart racer in the history of the industry. Best mechanics, best controls, best tracks, best racing.
Mari World Wii U is one of the finest Mario games and plat formers ever made.
[/QUOTE]
If Mario Kart 8 is 'the best kart racer in the history of the industry', then part of that is because the WiiU is superior to the Wii technically. If the WiiU could do more technically, then couldn't the Nintendo programmers have done more programmatically? [Yes] Given that the WiiU is considered the lowest spec'd console of the three bigs, then Mario Kart 8 would have been better still if made as a PS4 or XboxOne game. [Yes again]
Your argument against a single standard is actually a good argument for having it.
