Actually those extraneous forums ads were NOT mine.  Apparently my subscription had run out, and instead of disabling them they just junk them up with ads.  I renewed and they should be gone.

I'm totally fine with them.  I don't think they're that bad at all.  As long as they're generating revenue and the daily website visits aren't dropping, then there's no reason not to use them.  I'd hope that people realize that this website takes a massive amount of work -- it is essentially the equivalent of having a second, part-time job on top of your regular work and family obligations -- and it's amazing that you've stayed motivated enough to keep it going as a solo operation for 15 years.  So if paying the costs of the site through ads helps ensure that that motivation continues, then that's a good enough reason for me.
