I picked up the Assassins Creed XBone bundle for 349 a couple of weeks ago. I got to replay Black Flag(originally played on PS3) which was cool while I awaited Unity to be available. I was allowed to download it right away but not play it until the 11th. I was so looking forward to playing the first true next gen Creed game, and yes I'm a fan of the series.
Well I'm almost done with the game, up to the last sequence which is super hard, and done plenty of side missions. I'm very impressed with the graphics, including the sheer number of people moving independently and the great draw distance, and the controls are improved, particularly in how easy it is to climb down buildings without just jumping and risking damage to health. I also like the new Assassin all though the story is not very strong. Critic would appreciate how the present day missions are way short and no longer involve you leaving the animus. That's the most I can say without a spoiler.
On to the negatives. Well it can be a bit glitchy, like I actually did fall through the floor twice in all my hours spent on it. Luckily the XBone does not freeze, but instead the game resets to your last checkpoint. But I never had a major glitch that ruined my experience. I see so much talk online about major issues, but it seems the XBone version is the best one, followed by PS4, and PC being the worse. This even with a very powerful PC. So maybe I lucked out.
Oh I'm not too crazy about the increased difficulty which I thought was perfect on Black Flag. Combat is a lot tougher, and your assassin does not auto-generate health. You use health packs. This may not be a negative for some fans.
Overall I'm pleased with the game, although it didn't fully live up to my expectations. I'm also pleased with the console itself. I only have the two Creed game downloads but look forward to picking up a few games soon.
