Lately a lot of us have been discussing the shoddy quality beta software the masquerades as a complete, finished $60 video game.
Looks like the new poster child is
Assassin's Creed Unity (link).Be sure to check out the comments, which echo a lot of issues we've been lamenting as of late.
I've never been a big Assassin's Creed fan, and Ubisoft has a lousy track record, but it appears this latest trainwreck sets a new low.

Yep. At least 343 had cleaned up the online matching a little, this game sounds like it triggers accidental purchases.
Color me grateful I'm not on the game responsible for that. :/

Apparently, you haven't seen Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric, which makes Assassin's Creed Unity look polished.

Just one more reason to avoid this series like the plague, I learned all about this from Totalbiscuit, apparently this game is so poorly optimized that even an extremely powerful PC like his had could not handle running this game on Ultra at 60 FPS consistently, not to mention the game crashed on him all the time and had boatloads of glitches like you said.
I think Ubisoft actually does have a pretty good track record for the most part though, they've made some great games like Watch Dogs, Driver San Francisco, Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist and the Far Cry series, none of which had any of the massive problems that Unity did.

Here is the blog of this game, from the team that is 'fixing' it, (or maybe finishing it???) so you guys can keep tabs on if you want to buy it, if it ever gets done, or maybe regret if you did spend big bucks pre ordering it. "Are you having fun? Well you might as well, because we already got you money - and about half of it spent!"
http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-US/news/news_detail.aspx?c=tcm:152-184353-16&ct=tcm:148-76770-32In this blog post, we wanted to touch on the fixes to the game that we’re working on right now.
First, as a quick reminder, a Day 1 update has already been released which fixes a number of issues. Make sure your console or PC is connected to the internet to benefit from the update’s fixes.
We are currently working on our next update that will help address some of the specific issues some players are having, including:
- Arno falling through the ground.
- Game crashing when joining a co-op session.
- Arno getting caught inside of hay carts.
- Delay in reaching the main menu screen at game start.
In addition, we are already looking into many of the other issues you’ve told us about and we have more updates planned. This list doesn’t capture everything, but here are the most widely-reported problems we’ve heard about from you:
- Frame rate issues.
- Graphical and collision issues.
- Matchmaking co-op issues.
- Helix Credits issues.
We will be providing additional details in the coming days, so check back for updates. In the meantime, please continue to send us your feedback, and leave a comment if you have any questions for us.

This is the kind of crap that always bugged me in software development... I attribute it to the western corporate mindset. Come-up with some arbitrary delivery date (for games, right before Christmas), develop,
develop,
develop, realize your initial estimates were stupidly unrealistic, throw resources (people/money) at the problem, and push something out the door "on time." Technically you met your contractual obligations...but you laid a big turd.
Sorry, that felt good to vent! Too bad we try to keep it rated PG around here...

I disagree that it's a "western corporate" mindset, that seems like an unfounded stereotype, some Japanese games are also rushed out the door to meet deadlines and end up suffering for it.

If so, it's a rare occurence. Not saying a company like Capcom is above nickel and dime DLC practices, quite far from it. Yet this has more to do with greed/business practice than with with them rushing out games out of the door. They're not Ubi Soft/ Electronic Arts.

It is absolutely a Western trend. The upside of it is that games get out quicker--compare Battlefield, CoD, and Assassin's Creed's yearly release schedule to, say, Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Shin Megami Tensei games, which sometimes push 5-6 years of development time. The downside is that they are rarely, if ever, as polished. Look at Final Fantasy XIII, a massive project, for example--without doubt one of the smoothest gameplay experiences I've ever witnessed, and not a hint of a bug--version 1.00 is the only one you'll ever see (and it was a next-gen debut to boot)!
