Nintendo 2DS.... 2D

Postby Weekend_Warrior1 » August 29th, 2013, 2:40 am

Why not just cut the price of the 3DS by $30 or $40 - especially before right the holiday season?

I'm thinking this "2DS" is another bad marketing decision by Nintendo, after the Wii U

Nintendo 2DS.... 2D

Interestingly, the screens are actually just a single screen. So even more tablet like.

Wish they had included an HDMI out on this.

Like many others I thought this was a joke... I'm not so sure if it's a good idea. Won't it cause some confusion among customers?

Also, when will the Nintendo 2DS 3D be released?

Okay, so I saw some side pictures of the 2DS and I think it looks even more like a toy then before. The black model has a red back that is on a incline. Still, despite looking like a toy it does have an aesthetic appeal. It will also have an optional carrying case that you can buy that will be released with the model. Nintendo really should have included the carrying case with the handheld, but of course, it is a way for Nintendo to make extra money so of course they didn't.

Somehow I don't see this thing selling much better then the PSP Go did.

Nintendo 2DS.... 2D

Two months ago Irenicus asked about a Nintendo Tablet - play games, and surf the web - a sort of Game & Web.  Wish....Denied.   I think this is as close to a Nintendo Tablet as you are likely to get.

Still, its a neat twist on Nintendo and Yokoi's idea of leveraging mature technology, to cost effectively build a hardware platform focusing on fun gameplay instead of cutting edge tech.  They are turning some lemons (Tablets) into lemonaide (tablet screens) by taking a single fairly cheap resistive touch tablet screen and putting a shell on it to look like two screens (although only one still retains its touchscreen ability).    And it will be Nintendo Tough, except for the weak spots of exposed screens (they should package that case with it).

I have little ones, and friends with little ones, and I think its a great idea.  They kept DS (1DS) backwards compatibility so that it can easily be the hand me down library game player.  Imagine Black Friday'ish sales down near $100, or some package (toss in that case), and I think this would fall in very nicely with many Christmas wish lists.   Is it for grownups - nah, get a 3DS XL, but for the little brother/little sister in the house, Santa might come with something flat, red or blue.

I like the sound of it to be honest, the 3D effect doesn't appeal to me but there are some games on the 3DS that do interest me. If it's sub £100 I could be sold.

I have to say I like it.  I will have a look at it when it comes out.  I found the 3d hard on the eyes so this could be just the thing for me.  Yeah I know the slider is there.  It could be my first Nintendo purchase for a couple of years.
