It's very gimmicky, kinda like the GB Micro in its days. I'm sure it will have its fans, and it's certainly a sound way to cater to young children, I'll pass, though.

Well, I like the 3D effect, it's not everything, but it's part of the 3DS appeal. As far as I'm concerned, the 2DS serves no purpose, yet it's there, I see it as a gimmick, something I could do without..

I like the 3D effect too.  I may impulse buy this 2DS in the future, because that's what I seem to do, but it won't replace my 3DS XL, which I am rather fond of specifically for the 3D.

Certainly, it does serve a purpose from a business standpoint, and I suppose it should sell. From a gamer standpoint, it offers less than the original models. Sure, it's gonna be less expensive, but it's also less desirable.

The price makes it more desirable.

I enjoy the 3D, but it is neither a deal breaker or deal maker for me.

However, I want the XL screens kind of bad....and 2DS XL would suit me fine at $145!!!!

It's a system for gamers on a budget, I'd rather have the real thing... if I didn't have 2 3DS already (European and Japanese), if money was an issue..I'd still pursue an used 3DS system rather than a brand new 2DS. They say less is more sometimes, not in this case, though.

Thanx for remembering my post Scotland. Yes I do see how this could be similar to a tablet. You may be right that this may be as close as Nintendo gets ----OR---- maybe this is a step in the direction for Nintendo to come out with a tablet in the future.

As far as my opinion on this? Well I think Nintendo is being mindful of their target audience and that is something we've recently seen Microsoft fail miserably at. It may not be all that successful or make much money, but it does say that Nintendo is still making products for the kids and that is something that will help further establish their niche market and help keep their appeal to kids. Nintendo doesn't have to be the number one video game seller to be successful. They decided way back in the Mortal Kombat days on the SNES that they wanted a specific market. As long as they continue to stay focused on their target audience I think they'll do fine.

[QUOTE=scotland17]Coming back to this thread in light of the Gamestop 'leaked' black Friday flyer listing this at $129.99.   That is the MSRP given by Nintendo of America, and its the price right now on Gamestop.com.  So, its not discounted on black Friday at Gamestop, if this flyer is legit.   Oddly, its much more expensive when I look at the Amazon site, but its slashed from an obscenely high price, so maybe that Amazon page is fubar'ed.  Best Buy also says $129.99, as does Walmart, Target, and Toys R Us.

I also noticed in that Gamestop flyer that for $40 more you can get the Luigi's Mansion bundled 3DS, which would seem a better deal than the 2DS, with no games.  Where's the Beef, Nintendo?  Bundle us a game willya?  Hopefully we'll see a black Friday/cyber Monday deal closer to that $100 US sweet spot, or through in some cherries like a free case.

FYI: Part of the reason I posted on this thread and not the Gamestop flyer thread was that I had trouble using the site's search engine to find this thread.  I knew it was a few weeks back, but searching on "2DS" failed, and "Nintendo 2DS" failed and " 'Nintendo 2DS' " failed to find this thread for different reasons.  I wanted to review the community opinions in thinking about the 2DS versus a 3DS on seeing the flyer.

Nintendo and Amazon have been feuding since their was alot of returns on 3DS that Nintendo would not honor (ppl ultrapicky about top hinge tightness), so Amazon no longer sells Nintendo consoles, which is bad news, cause they usually have awesome BF deals. So, those are 3rd party sellers on Amazon, jacking up the price.....

I am not sure if any retailers will have a 2DS game bundle on their own, it might be selling well enough not to warrant one....
