How often do you play retro games?

I'm fine with games being serious as long as they are also compelling and fun to play, two series I could never get into because they were so overly serious and boring are Assassin's Creed and Elder Scrolls(Dishonored was also way too serious for my tastes).

Continuing my NES marathon, I beat Mega Man 2 for the first time over the weekend.

I'll now be moving into the Castlevania games leading up to Halloween.
Yeah, but try going back to play Fallout 3 after you've already done that opening/tutorial level again.  I did last year and I wanted to pull my hair out.  I couldn't skip through that part fast enough.  That's saying something...because it's really well done too.

I dunno...I just have zero tolerance for this type of stuff nowadays.  I actually prefer over the top stuff because at least it's so silly that I find it enjoyable.  Games that take themselves so seriously tend to make me cringe and bore me to tears.
I tend to feel the opposite. I like games to take themselves seriously. Over-the-top silliness feels like a cop out to me. It's like they can't produce something believable so they may as well come up with pink elephants wearing top hats. Still gameplay trumps all. I strongly dislike the graphics on MLB Power Pros, but the gameplay is so tight that it plays better than any other baseball series. On the other hand Disgea appears to have all the great mechanics of a tactics game, but the childish humor and goofy looking characters just turns me off.
