Did you ever think...?

Did you ever think it was weird that Atari, Mattel, and Coleco made games for each other's competing consoles?

Did you ever think it's weird that there are more magazines on news stands devoted to knitting, model trains, and tattoos than to video games?

Did you ever think you'd miss the goofy modifier codes (big-head, invincible, etc.) that developers "hid" in games?

Feel free to add more points to ponder...

Did you ever think that a time would come when some games are announced a full ten years before their eventual release?

Did you ever think Sega could fall as hard as they did, even as late as 1999 when the Dreamcast had a very promising launch?

Did you ever think that Mark Hamill would do some of his best acting work for a video game?

Those are just a few that came to mind.

Yes it is strange for today's standards because practices like this, full first party titles across all competing platforms, is partly responsible for the crash if not the second most major reason.

Example: The Mattel 2600 games were intentionally watered down to prevent Atari sales.

Did you ever think Sega would make games for Nintendo ?

Did you ever think games would one day come without instruction manuals ?

Did you ever think why every electronics company in the mid 70's all thought they could make a profit by all releasing the same game (Pong) ?

Did you ever think back in the 90's that FMV in gaming would go away?

Did you ever think after the SNES came out another console controller would come with a 12 button keypad (Jagaur)?

Did you ever think VR would become a thing again after the Lawnmower man rage died down?

Did you ever think the Atari Jaguar would actually succeed?

Did you ever think that Sony would get so ridiculously arrogant and full of themselves and end up in third-place for the longest time?

I've always seen more gaming magazines then for other stuff like knitting though.

FMV gaming is essentially a trend that evolved into Mocap, then CG.

Not really, but I wouldn't have expected anything less than a Keyboard accessory ALA Dreamcast Keyboard.

Yes. In fact the industry set its ego aside to better improve on the concept of VR.

Before the Dreamcast's fate? Never.

Well, as nostalgic as manuals are, today there's no excuse for a basic rundown of gameplay to not ever be on disc.

Atari really let themselves swim in their success, part of its deserved some of it not... So, partly, yes.

---

What if Microsoft gave out an original Xbox that had HDMI ports, and improved networking, two years after the 360's release?

What if Nintendo did make their own portable versions of the actual NES/SNES hardware without tacky attachments?

What if Atari's Lynx had decent battery life, were smaller, and had a bargain price?

What if NEC still released console gaming platforms?

What if Sony released a new version of the PS1 every generation?

Did you ever think that it would one day be acceptable for popular video games to be laced with a ton of profanity?

Eh, there's tons of popular movies that have lots of profanity, so I was not one bit surprised that an even more successful medium would also have lots of swearing in certain games.
