This is my last one again for the next few months. GoG.com is having a 48 hour Christmas special where you can download a copy of Duke Nukem 3D, complete with digital copies of the manual, some wallpapers, ringtones, and some other stuff for free. Zero dollars and zero cents. It's DRM free. Again, PC gaming = wow.
Go check it out.

Long long ago, on a version of Windows long forgotten...
I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if a million voices all started cheering because GOG is releasing versions of Star Wars X-wing and TIE Fighter soon for $10 each.
These are the games you were looking for.
Apparently it has the expansions as well, and should work on modern Windows. When I searched I got 404 errors on GOG, but other sites seem to thinks its a go. I find the lack of clarity disturbing, but we should know more tomorrow.

Isn't PC gaming just incredible. You have to BEG console game developers to release old stuff to you at reasonable prices, while they're busy re-releasing new stuff again instead. Meanwhile, you can essentially buy any ol' laptop at Wal-Mart, and for $20 on GoG have a massive library of classic games from multiple decades. Anyone not gaming at least a little on PC is really ripping themselves off.
Pro-tip, if you hold off on buying these, I bet they go for $2.49 each sometime this year.

Does GoG sell flight sticks so I can play these properly? ![Wink - ;) [wink]](/images/boards/smilies/wink.gif)
I actually have my Greatest Hits CD-ROMs of these games from the late 90s, but I haven't tried to play them in years, and I don't have a flight stick, which is necessary.

Also, for those of you who have a vintage Mac laying around, macintoshgarden.org is a great site for old 68k and PowerPC abandonware. Since virtually every piece of software ever made for these platforms classifies as abandonware, you can download anything from old versions of Photoshop to Baldur's Gate, Marathon, Halo: CE, and even Diablo--all for free! Good times.

Yeah, a flight stick is needed for the 1998 content at least. The requirements blurb says controller slash joystick, so maybe it could work with a 360 controller if thats your style. I would prefer a flight stick.
Its kinda exciting, because a good Star Wars game just puts me back in a carefree younger days mode. An argument can be made that video games have done more with that setting than the many of the movies ever did.
Not as clumsy or random as a modern shooter; a more elegant game from a more civilized age.
I am also shocked in that this is now a Disney catalog item, of a hot IP that has a cartoon and upcoming movie, and released DRM free on GOG for a very reasonable price. None of that is standard procedure for The House of Mouse. As someone who buys a lot of Disney merchandise, it makes me wonder. Maybe we will see more LucasArts products on GOG.
