Hi all,

I recently picked up an HGST 1.5 TB notebook HDD from my local Fry's Electronics. At the time of release, it was the highest platter density ever achieved in a hard drive. And lo and behold, it's compatible with Sony game consoles! Finally I can store all my PS Plus games on one drive! The only thing I'm having trouble deciding is whether to put it in my PS3 or PS4. I certainly have much higher storage demands on the PS3 side but in the long term, the massive size of PS4 games is going to stack up pretty quick.

Anyway, 1.5 TB is a huge increase over the PS3's original stock 60 GB. I wonder if eventually we'll be installing 6, 8, or 10 TB drives in our PS4s--only time will tell!

heh, I bought a 1 TB drive for my PS3 awhile back for all of the PS3 Plus games.  It works like a charm.  Although, I think I put in a 7200 RPM vs a 5400 RPM drive as it had trouble keeping up.

I also added a 250GB hard drive for more storage space for my Xbox 360.  This one came from China so I wasn't exactly confident it would last.  So far it's doing well and holding up like a champ.

What does everyone do for their Wii U?  The 32GB has already been used up and I'm loathe to delete games to make room for Mario Kart's tracks.

So--an update.

While the PS3 is technically able to support a 1.5TB hard drive via a recent firmware update, it appears to be incapable of error-checking disks larger than 1TB.

Either I corrupted some data on the hard drive by accidentally shutting the PS3 off mid-game or there were already bad sectors on the drive, because I was prompted to check the file system for errors. When I initiated the file system check, I received an error message before it started saying that the disk could not be repaired and would need to be formatted. This after redownloading more than 500GB of game data! I formatted the disk and then attempted another file system repair--same thing happened as before, even though theoretically the format should have eliminated the corruption.

My conclusion is that either a) the disk was defective or b) the PS3 still isn't fully compatible with disks this large.

Anyone else had any trouble with large disks in the PS3? For now, I'm just going to reinstall the 256GB SSD I had in there before because it still has all my game saves and quite a few full games on it.
