Disappointing E3 for Nintendo 3DS owners

Postby Captain_Crunch1 » June 12th, 2014, 2:41 pm

I have been following the current E3 from a distance now, and I have to say that I - as a Nintendo 3DS owner - am disappointed. Nintendo now seems to do everything to make the Wii U a success - a lot of new titles were introduced for that platform. But it doesn't seem to care much about the 3DS anymore. Besides the new Super Smash Bros. (also on Wii U), the only 3DS title that was vaguely interesting was Code Name: STEAM. (Okay, and of course Gunman Clive 2, but that's not a Nintendo title). Or did I miss some great 3DS titles on the E3?

The 3DS already has a large userbase and a good library of games (Mario Kart, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, etc). Nintendo's trying to save the Wii U at the moment so naturally they're not gonna focus on the thing that's succeeding.

Well there is Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, but yeah aside from that I have to say i'm pretty dissapointed that there's barely anything at all coming for the 3DS, considering the 3DS right now has better sales then the Wii U, it dosen't make sense to give it less titles.

Sega, you spend a lot of time berating the game industry, at large, by calling it "trash." I'm going to give you the same useless advice you gave me, about five years ago, when I complained about the glut of shovelware that I felt was contaminating the Wii 'a library. You told me that nobody is forcing me to play the games, so I have no business complaining about it.

Yeah, right back atcha, bub. :-)

What are you talking about? What does this have to do with me, or with shovelware?

Do I seriously have to spell it out?

You spend an insane amount of time complaining about the non-Nintendo side of the industry. You personally insult gamers for their preferences, complain about the "adult trash" that was Ubi Soft's conference (I can't, for the life of me, figure out why you would watch something that you knew you would have no interest in anyway.....sort of how you commented on a Xenoblade-specific thread even though you have expressed zero interest in the game).

How do I tie that in, you ask? You jumped a lot of people, myself included, for complaining about a specific sort of Wii game. "You don't have to play/buy them," you said. Well, you don't have to play/purchase the games that you go to great lengths to criticize. It works both ways.

Back on topic.....

I liked what Sony showed, but I honestly think that Nintendo took it, hands down. It was a fun presentation, one that was chock full of games! I was impressed with the Zelda trailer, excited beyond belief for Starfox, intrigued by Mario Maker, and I thought that Steam looked GREAT!

The trailer for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were more than enough for me. 3D remakes of my favorite generation of Pokemon with awesome new Mega Evolutions? Sign me up!

Yeah, the Nintendo 3DS didn't get as much attention as the Wii U, but the console really didn't need much due to Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Super Smash Bros. being their major AAA releases; however, they are focusing on an exclusive new IP, Code Name: Steam, which is a Turn-Based Action RPG similar to Valkyria Chronicles and X-Com: Enemy Unknown. It's being developed by Intelligent Systems, the same staff that did the Advance Wars, Paper Mario, Wario Ware, Rhythm Heaven, and Fire Emblem series', so it's in really good hands. Besides, I feel 3DS eShop lineup is coming along brilliantly with games such as Shovel Knight (Ducktales-Mega Man hybrid), Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (the last canon installment of the cult Game Boy Color action-platformer), Azure Striker Gunvolt (Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX series spiritual successor), and Steel Empire (a definitive remake of the cult Sega Genesis shooter). In addition, I feel the Wii U needs more exposure due to fledging sales, which were increased slightly due to Mario Kart 8, so the console needs to keep up the momentum.

To tell you the truth, I don't think anyone had a disappointing E3 this year. I don't get why anyone was overall disappointed with any of the companies. Everything was pretty great and it was a strong answer to the idea that there's anything dying or stagnant in the console market. This E3 was impressive for everyone and shows why the console (and PC) market still matter a ton.
