[QUOTE=Atarifever]Metroid Prime is the series I don't get. My old roomate's boyfriend thought videogames began and ended with the Xbox. However, he got hooked on that and played it to completion at my house. He said it was awesome and he hoped I'd buy Echoes. However, I think it's just a mess. Sure it looks nice, sounds nice, and has decent controls, but it isn't any fun. I loved 2D Metroids, and I know that this is an attempt to put it in 3D while maintaining its adventure style, but I just think it sucks. It's boring, repetitive, and still relies on an outdated save style that shouldn't ever be used. I don't mind save points, but at least make them frequent if they're included. The game's too short not to save and too long and hard to have the save points be that rare. I think it's a total wreck.

You sir are correct. I agree with everything you said. Metroid could have been a stellar 3rd person action adventure game, but instead they turned it into this crap. Simply awful. Plus the game gives me the worst case of motion sickness I have ever experienced!

SSX I am pretty certain GGX has more frames of animation than Alpha 2 did (Saturn version I am comparing with). I also didn't say it was better animated, I just said I thought it looked better. I would rather have less frames of animation if it means an end to the pixelation that has plagued many 2D games.
Anyway franchises I didn't get:
-Unreal Tournament. Not really the whole franchise, just the first one. For me Quake 3 blew it out the water easily in terms of gameplay, weapons balance and graphics. 2k3 and 2k4 made up for that though.
-Gran Tourismo. I spent two hours with it and didn't like the handling nor the whole work up from a rubbish car angle. I just founde it boring.
-Driver. I don't really get this game. I only played the first one. It was just too hard for me and if you got to a checkpoint in bad shape then back to the beginning of the level, real pain in the bum. Nice visual style though.
-Mario. I loved Mario 64 but I don't really like the 2D ones. Always found them kind of boring and slow, not to mention butt ugly. I always found Sonic so much more exhilarating. They're not bad games but a long way from classic in my opinion, more sort of mediocre.
-Mortal Kombat. The characters have little to no distinction outside of special moves, a ton of the characters are just pallette swaps visually, unbalanced bosses, a ton more fatalities than real moves, basic gameplay, altogether broken games. This is based on MK1 to Ultimate MK3.
-Metal Gear Solid. They were nothing more than pattern memorisation. Not to mention the lazy design in MGS 1 where you had to return to the start of the game. I like Splinter Cell because in those games you can improvise on the fly so it's not about trial and error. Splinter Cell also allows you to interact with the environments in so many more ways.
-Medal of Honour. There are many awesome FPS WW2 games but the Medal of Honour series never did it for me. It always felt so staged and limited. I didn't play any of the Pacific games though.
-Early Age of Empires games. These peed me off. How powered up archers could destroy towers so easily was stupid. The problem was that it mapped poorly onto the real world and so strategies were unintuitive for new players. I think it didn't get the balance between men and upgrades correct either.

So, you guys didn't like Metroid Prime. Don't you think it is a little harsh to say that it's crap or that it sucks? My question is: what about Metroid Prime is boring, repetitive, or in any way crappy? The game didn't receive the highest scores of any game this generation for sucking.
To stay on topic, I've never been able to get into Metal Gear or Splinter Cell.

I got suckered into the prime hype, what a sham that was. Pretty game but it was long tedious and dull all over. I liked how hunters put more focus on action but the levels needed work in the design department.

Metal Gear is no where near as trial and error based as Splinter cell. If you get spotted in Splinter Cell you are basically screwed. I'm not so sure I understand your improvise on the fly comment...perhaps I just suck at the game.
I hated SC because of the trial and error based gameplay. At least in MG you can run and hide or lose the enemy one way or another. Plus there are at least exciting action moments in MG. Splinter Cell is way too docile for me. Keep in mind I have only played the original game for the xbox. I disliked it too much to give the sequels a go.

No accounting for taste I guess.
Despite it complete derth of quality it's pretty obvious why mortal kombat is popular. The total over the top graphics is what still keeps those crap fests moving off shelves. The old games were always a joke compared to the deep and technical natures of the capcom SNK fighters and history really shows this. And when the new ones came out i had already been treated to soul calibur and the excellent virtua fighter 4. I sure as hell didn't feel like going backwards in the gameplay department.
DOA is another one but thats a rant for another time.

Yes, I would say, yes it did just that.

The game is repetitive in that killing the same 2d enemies a bunch of times by jumping and pressing shoot is a lot less time consuming than entering a room, pressing lock on and shooting the same charging enemies a dozen times. That's ignoring the much more complex respawning enemies that take thought to kill every time you enter the same room (which you have to do about a million times).
Repetitive is mainly a complaint based on the poor saving system. If I sink a half hour to an hour into a complex game like Metroid Prime, I shouldn't be able to die one room away from saving and then have to repeat the whole boring process over again. I'm pretty arcade oriented, so I don't mind failing at a boss and having to do a whole hour -long game over again, but then, the whole hour-long game wasn't something tedious like "go down elevator, enter room you've been in a thousand times, kill respawned enemies on the way down and again on the way back, use new weapon to open something, get something, save."

Agreed. Both are utterly yawn inducing.

I just don't see eye-to-eye with you on your complaints. Almost every enemy in the game can be killed extremely quickly. There are some times when enemies don't go down just by shooting at them, but I think this adds variety to the combat, and if you don't want to fight these enemies, you very rarely have to. Backtracking is no more of a problem in Prime than it was in any other Metroids. I also think that the saving system is excellent. Prime isn't exactly a hard game, and traditionally part of the fun and challenge of a Metroid game is knowing that if you die, you lose whatever you've done since the last save. Save points are abundant and well placed- there is almost always one very close to a boss. There was only one stretch in the whole game when I felt like a save point was needed (between the start of Phazon Mines and when you get the power bombs). Plus, the save points replenish energy. It's about as convenient as a saving system in a Metroid game can possibly get.
I don't want to get in a big argument over this, just please understand that Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games ever, and I can get a bit defensive when someone insults it...if you keep this up, I may have to write an essay about why it rules.

There's a bunch.

Sounds to me like someone is an anti-fanboy. I for one have never met a person who didn't like the 2d Mario Bros. games. I'm guessing you didn't want to enjoy them so you conviced yourself they aren't any good.
