I find it amusing that you feel M-rated games can't be taken seriously because they are too immature & outrageous, yet you have no problem playing games with a plumber that stomps on giant turtles, wears animal costumes & takes hallucinogens. I enjoy fantasy stuff like Resident Evil, Bioshock & Fallout. I find the setting and atmosphere in these games to be fun and enjoyable. I think they do a good job of taking a fantasy and making it believable for the context that it is being used in.
You say you don't care how "cute" a game is & that it's all about gameplay. Yet you can't allow yourself to enjoy any M-rated games because they are too outrageous and immature. What about the gameplay in those games? Maybe you can stomach "cute" better than I can & maybe I can stomach a guy getting shot better than you can.
@Sega, If you play games for gameplay rather than aesthetics, why are M-rated titles categorically ruled out? The rating refers to mature content (blood, violence, frightening situations), which has nothing at all to do with gameplay.
Sadly, M rated games tend to be the most cinema heavy. I cannot stand to have an often mediocre game constantly cursing at ME as if I was the problem. It is hard to get into a game like say Assassins Creed because the story is so dumb it make me feel dumb and immature to play this game. Its like reading the worst book you could find. It sucks the fun out.
I tend to gravitate toward arcade experiences, the game industry, especially the M rated portion, tends to gravitate toward immature, profanity laden, violent melodrama, of the lowest quality.
Its hard to play something that repulses you.

I think there are some games that are a little over the top with language and stuff, but that's only a few, and that shouldn't dissuade you from playing M-Rated games. When your console is only surviving based on games that you slide over banana peels like your 5 years old, it's a problem. What does that really say about your console.

I can find in this paragraph neither an ounce of cogent thought nor anything remotely corresponding to the truth. Not all M-rated games are Assassin's Creed, for one thing. Moreover, there's no demonstrable correspondence between game rating and frequency of cinematics.

That my console is arcade fun?
I played the demo for Zombie U but I did not buy because the aiming controls were bad and the game felt generic. The story was really bad and intrusive.
I bought that Cabela Dangerous Hunts just for cheap fun and even that game had a terribad story mode. I mean SMH bad. It is also sad that 3rd part's still cannot build good pointer controls like Nintendo has done since day one.
I have plenty of fun third party games that are not wrecked by over bearing cinematic s however.
Swords and Soldiers
CastleStorm
The Cave
Shovel Knight
Unepic is a fun old school game with a few flaws....
Ducktales is ok, they ruined part of that game but I got it on sale at least
Bit Trip Rinner I bought on sale, it is overrated, but ok
Xbox One and PS4 have ZERO maturity advantage of Wii U, if anything, as I say, they are worse, and probably much worse. Would mature responsible people put up with full price broken games from giant corporations that are loaded up with subscriptions, season passes, day one DLC, and microtransactions built into the games? No, they would not, because that is not responsible spending, you could not sell that product to responsible people.

They have plenty of "maturity advantage" as they have more third-party support then the Wii U(something that's been an issue for Nintendo for quite some time).

When you make a fair point SegaT you often lose it as your posts are so unbalanced.
Nintendo do generally have good quality control I agree, then you lose the point as you make it sound like every other developer doesn't. Rockstar, Naughty Dog, Polyphonic, their games are usually highly polished and exude the top notch gameplay you mention and yes they do it including 'mature' themes.
The titles you list for the Wii U are undoubtedly quality but by the same token uninspiring, personally I have zero interest in playing games which to be frank, have their roots firmly in the N64 era.
People put the poor Wii U sales down to Nintendo's marketing strategy, I don't, the games aren't fresh or edgy and only appeal to Nintendo fans.
Also as previously stated Nintendo online is miles behind both Sony and Microsoft, so a mark off for quality control there Nintendo.
Also the PS / Xbox game library has more ambitious game world size than the average Nintendo game. Does any Nintendo game have the sheer scope and enormity of a GTA 5 or Fallout 3 ?
I do enjoy your posts SegaT but you need to be more balanced, otherwise you come across as a blinkered Nintendo die hard.

I used to defend Final Fantasy XIII but lately when I look back on it, I tend to agree with most critics that it is a bad game. Not FFXII bad but still pretty bad.
When I was a kid, I hated fighting games and shoot em ups. Now they're two of my favorite genres.
