I like the 'Game of the Day' idea assuming it is limited to games with high review scores (B+ or above?).  Likewise as someone else suggested, there could be a turd of the week type game showcasing games with no redeeming qualities at all.

That's a good point - should the "Review Spotlight" be limited to better-than-average grades?

I was going to make it completely random.  I could use some advice.

For me the game of day should feature games that received from a A to a C + but not C-......

Game of the Day --> C or better
Turd of the Day --> D or worse

I think I want to make it a single review - at least to start.

On one hand, I like the idea that it could be any one of my older reviews.  On the other hand, a new reader might think it's lame to click on the review spotlight and read about a C- game.

I'm leaning toward the C+ or higher route.

Keep the ideas coming.  I'll probably work on this feature next week.

Upon reflection, I think it might be wise to include the Turd of the Day (ToD) at the same time as the Game of the Day (GoD).  Here are my thoughts backing this idea.

Many come here to garner information on a particular game prior to purchasing, especially the classic games.  From reading prior posts, they also want to know what games to avoid before shelling out their hard earned coin.  Displaying games rated low in addition to the gems demonstrates that you are different from the other websites that typically give every game a passing grade or higher.  Listing a GoD along with a ToD would further emphasize your honest, no-spin approach in reviewing games to new visitors to VGC.  They will also know that you are looking out for them as a gamer.

This is just something to chew for you.  Just don’t include Heart of the Alien in the ToD section  : )

Perhaps so, but perhaps not;  those reviews are fun to read.

Good point.  The reviews with games that are very good don't tend to be very colorful.  Maybe I'll go back to my original idea of making it completely random.  Of course, I really hadn't made any progress anyway.
