Is Anyone Else Sick Of PC Elitism?

Postby LoganRuckman1 » April 2nd, 2013, 5:54 pm

I for one am. Every time there's a debate about Consoles Vs. PCs, anytime someone says they prefer consoles, the rabid PC fanboys will all attack you and insult you and call you an idiot, and tell you all about how you're not a true gamer. When you ask these PC morons (no, not all PC gamers are morons, I'm just talking about the elitists here) to explain why they prefer PCs, you'll notice that they never talk about the games, and only sometimes talk about the controls. They'll always talk about how powerful PCs are and how much better the graphics are, therefore, they must be better. And then when you try to talk about Console games, they'll still say consoles suck because you can play those games on emulators anyways. I'm tired of all the PC elitists.

Yeah, those people irritate me to no end, and i'm a PC gamer myself, though i'm not one of those people who spend all their time building their own gaming rig and bragging about how powerful it is.  I mostly play obscure PC games and ports of last-gen/current gen games, but I don't do things like World Of Warcraft or Diablo III.

I think we need to gather them all together, put them on a boat, trap them on a deserted island, and watch them all tear each other apart... We could even supply them with weapons all Hunger Games style.

Boy you aren't kidding.  Obviously there are certain kinds of advantages here and there, but I think they are more than cancelled out by the downfalls.

Oh my God, there is someone else like me.  I play PC games a ton, but I hate those people.  Unlike you, I mostly play low spec indie games that can run on almost anything, but I also do occassionally play an older last gen game.  I see that as the PC advantage.  Weird, cool, fun, cheap games in the millions, with most or all of the money going to the really great people who actually make the games.  The idea that I should obsess over how much RAM I have when those games are out there is beyond me.  If I want to play a AAA, high graphic requirement game, I can have a 360 for less than $200.  If I want to play a board game where mechs fight on different levels of a grid and mine for resources, I play on PC.

There are fanboys for all the systems.  Its pretty annoying.  I assume most of the people who get involved in these battles between the system are all young, have one type of system, and feel jealous of the systems they dont have.   All systems have pluses and minuses.  For example...

PC pluses - by far the best graphics on games like Crysis 3 if you willing to pay, great for online multiplayer or obscure game types (for example bridge building simulators)

cons -  expensive, incompatibilities, glitches etc

XBOX 360 and PS3  -  Plusses -  easy to use, fewer glitches, good for action - adventure type games and other mainstream games, great for couch based multiplayer

cons -  not quite as good of graphics as PC, not so good for indie games (but getting better).

You can do this analysis for nearly every system type etc.   Almost every system has a type of experience not available on another system. Sure some systems are certainly better than others (For example, the gameboy destroys the Game.com, which I'm sure most reasonable people would agree.)   However, between the PC and the currently popular consoles, its pretty much apples and oranges.   People who go on forums and say "I'm not buying a Wii, that kiddie toy suxxors!!!" are missing out on great gaming experiences like Mario Galaxy.   This same can be said for almost any system, so these gaming wars are nonsense.

I stopped buying PC games once they made used games worthless.

Again, this is the reason I don't buy big budget games on there.  If my copy of Binding of Issac is no good in 10 years, well, I paid $2 for it so who cares.  If my copies of Avernum 4, 5, and 6 are no good, I paid some fraction of $4  or something for them in a bundle, so again, who cares?  If I paid a bazillion dollars for a PC "rig" then had bioshock not work after paying $60 for it, yeah, the PC would be out the window.

Although this is off topic, I usually don't play PC games very often but have found GoG.com an excellent source for cheap, DRM free, awesome classic games.

It's amazing what you can get legally for just good games.

Anyone checked out the Humble Bundles?  If you've got an Android device it's amazing.  I got 9 games for $5.67 for my tablet.  They all work on your phones too.

http://www.humblebundle.com/

1 of those games is Raiden Legacy which contains 4 Raiden games, so I guess, technically 13 games for $5.  Also, Out of This World is included in the bundle.  Oh, and so is Metal Slug 3.

Some might be duds but at this price and quality overall, who cares.  If you have an Android device, I'd recommend taking a look.
