The E3 2014 Thread

Actually, I think Nintendo has to do the least. Anything half big from them is meeting or exceeding expectations at this point. I think if they were playing Risk, they'd be playing turtle right now and just planning to make it through the generation without cancelling the system too early or becoming irrelevant. Show the toys. Show one big game (Prime 4, Zelda, 2D Metroid. New IP, whatever), show X, show some 3DS stuff, and make one surprise announcement (VC subscription or something) and they're going to be seen as doing ok enough.

Sony has to try to keep momentum by announcing a ton of games (indie and a couple big ones is enough) and some additional PS+ stuff maybe. They also have to be quick and have a plan to play off any MS missteps. They just have to not mess up and still tell the same value story as last year.

MS has to hit big. They have one chance to completely undo last year. If they can top Sony this year, the story is of a war between them. If they don't top Sony, nothing really changes for them. They're still playing catchup, and Sony wins the year by default (unless Nintendo announces, like, Earthbound U, Prime 4, Zelda U, two new IPs, and a Madden bundle with two tablets to be used as playbooks for $329 or something).

It just dawned on me that E3 is starting next week. I've never been this excited for E3 before. I can't wait to see what Nintendo will unveil. I'm hoping for lots of 3rd party exclusives. I'm excited for the 1st party stuff too but I already know they'll be announcing a lot of great 1st party games. The 3rd party games are a mystery and I just have to know what they are.

Here's another leaked list of games for Nintendo's E3 event.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/nintendo-e3-2014-games-list-leaked-online

This one also says that SMTXFE will be shown off. It also anticipates that Nintendo is going to continue remaking Gamecube games in HD for the Wii U. This time with Super Mario Sunshine and Wave Race: Blue Storm. It also claims that Dragon Quest VII 3D is coming to America. It also gives us the title of the new Zelda game, Unbound King. I've been curious about one particular game on that list for a while now. Pokken Fighters. I can't really tell if it's another Pokemon Stadium-type game or a more traditional 1v1 fighter featuring Pokemon. Either way, I can't wait to find out what it's all about.

I'm a little nervous for Microsoft.  With all the grat news they released lately, with Phil Spencer at the helm, with their promise to talk games, I have igh hipes for them.  However, right this second I am watching their pre-show with Major Nelson on the Xbox page (the other streams won't work with my computer here).  It is painfully, painfully boring. I usually find him less than exciting, so it's probably that.  However, it has the usual Microsoft at E3 feel of suits trying to act like people.  I really hope the show is different.  I really want them to blow this out of the water.  Them failing with Phil SPencer running it and the new policies they now have would be like getting hit by a car on the sidewalk after you ran across the street with your eyes closed.  They made their mistakes before.  If they fail now, them and the rest of the industry will think it's because of what happens from here on in.

Not impressed with the Microsoft presentation at all.

I felt most of the show was 'shooting game, then rpg, shooting game, then rpg, shooting game, Forza Horizon 2, then rpg, shooting game... '

The only highlight for me was the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which of course is another shooting game. But I was happy to see that the rumors of the Halo 2 Anniversary game were true, because I absolutely loved Halo 2.

Other than that, I think all of the multiplatform games shown will look and play much better on the PS4. So for me, it was hard to get excited about the gameplay footage during most of the show.

Project Spark sounds promising. But with all the creating and customizing, it just seems like a rip-off of Little Big Planet (on PS3)

A new Crackdown is cool. But did the original(s) even sell that well???

Same with Phantom Dust... I don't even remember the original game.

And Sunset Overdrive? Meh. The whole time I watched the gameplay footage, I thought "Oh look, another mindless game where all you do is kill hordes of stupid monsters/zombies! Yippy." Looks super lame, to me. I think I'd much rather see Sega do a new Jet Grind Radio game in this same visual art style, than play this throwaway game from Insomniac.

I'm pretty bummed out by E3 2014 due to Square-Enix's choice to omit an FFXV announcement.

That being said, I'm hopeful for Nintendo's presentation. Old Ninty's really my only horse in this race, so I wish them well. Zelda U, Metroid 3DS, and concrete info on Monolith's X will make many a happy gamer.

I think the Microsoft conference was pretty damn good, they showcased a very impressive lineup indeed, i'm all for a new Crackdown, the original sold quite well(well enough to get a sequel anyways)

Sunset Overdrive looks kick-ass, the fact that Insomniac is behind it only increases my excitment, it dosen't look like a "throwaway game" at all.

Dismissing Project Spark as a rip-off of Little Big Planet is incredibly silly if you ask me, the titles don't appear to have anything in common whatsoever beyond being able to create stuff.

Other standouts- Scalebound looks pretty promising, Phantom Dust also sounds pretty cool(I never heard of the original either, but i'm definitely interested in it now)

There were points in the Sony conference where I felt like I was watching last year's MS Xbox One reveal. They honestly talked about Playstation TV, Playstation Now streaming on Sony TVs, a new TV show, Sony movies and TV, and a cartoon movie. They gave like 10 minutes to one TV show.

Some of their show was pretty good. A lot of it was funny, as they really seemed to be trying to not let themselves be too polished. But after what they did last year, all I wanted was games. Why they let TV and movie junk bog down the whole thing, when MS did the opposite, is beyond me.

MS won this one. And I guess I know why MS released all that news over the last couple weeks. They didn't want to talk about anything- ANYTHING - but games. It was a good choice.

[/QUOTE]Are you aware of the HUGE online community of gamers who have developed some amazing mini-games and custom-made levels from the user tools in the LBP games? There are people who have made first-person shooters, fighting games, car racing games, mimicked many classic arcade games, and even developed many Mario & Sonic inspired clones.
