A SNES owner had no reason to buy Genesis for action or sports games, both were well represented on SNES.
It may not matter to you, but it does matter to a lot of other people, so I really don't see how it's a "cheap petty" shot in the least.
It shouldn't matter. I suppose if they choose to make it matter to them, even if they don't have another console to see the game on, that's their pointless prerogative. I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter to most normal people.

Well everyone has their own definition of what "normal" is, so that's not really relevant.

I can definitely see the convenience of a one for all system. I'm just saying, me personally, I like systems to have uniqueness.

It's true, Action Games WERE well represented on the SNES, with amazing titles like Cybernator, Axelay, and Contra III. However, the Genesis is often seen as a superior console in regards to faster paced (without as much slowdown), action packed games.
As for Sports Games, I gotta admit, I'm not a huge fan of the realistic kind (I do love me some non realistic Sports Games like the Mario Sports Games and NFL Blitz), but most debates about Genesis vs. SNES have people telling you that the Genesis trumps the SNES' Sports Game library.
It's like RPGs on the Genesis. Sure, it's a genre that's fairly well represented on the Genesis, like Shining Force and Phantasy Star, but if you want the best RPG system of that generation, then you want an SNES.

I read his post as a tongue in cheek/ironic sort of way...The Genesis was known for having way better sports games compared to the SNES based on the Genesis having a faster processor.

Nintendo machines have little option but to have exclusives as the big third party developers won't publish multi-plats for their systems.
