So, for people who criticize Nintendo for lack of creativity needs to read this excellent article. Seriously, it's a great read, and it gives me high hopes for the future.

Basically, what Garage is is a development team of young, up and coming developers, who brainstorm any ideas they have for games, and they choose the best ideas. This is how Splatoon was born. What it does is allow for these young developers to flex their creativity and come up with innovative new ideas.

The fact that the developers actually got pissed off at Nintendo for trying to make Splatoon a Mario game, and actually getting a new IP out of it makes me happy, because:

1. It proves that these developers are not afraid to speak up about any ideas they have. They don't just accept whatever is thrown out of them. Instead, they want their creativity to shine.

2. It proves that Nintendo IS willing to try new ideas.

It seems like Nintendo is ushering in a new era of creativity and the new IPs everyone wants so badly, and I couldn't be happier.

Microsoft & Sony have been big advocators of indie games and indie game developers for many years. How is this any different?

Maybe it's not, but this is a step in the right direction for Nintendo. It gives me hope that they'll start creating more new IPs that people want so much. Creativity is always a good thing, no matter the developer. And Nintendo's Garage looks to push Nintendo in a more creative direction than before. Also, considering this is one of Nintendo's own studios, chances are, the games will be released in retail, which is more appealing to a lot of people than downloading games. I also like how these developers are willing to speak up about their games, showing their passion for creative freedom.

Well, I do like the fact that is Miyamoto is involved. If anybody knows creativity, it's that guy

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony and Nintendo probably all have games R&D. But Nintendo are the only one of the three that tend to explicitly say they have a games R&D department.

Microsoft and Sony tend to simply say that they are always prepared to give new series a chance.

In short, all three say the same thing, just Nintendo uses different wording from the other two, which gives the impression they are unique, when really they are doing the same thing as the other two.

I agree completely. Miyamoto is my god. And part of the reason that Nintendo is such a great company is because Miyamoto followed the beat of his own drum and did his thing rather than blindly follow orders. These developers seem to be taking on his spirit. With Miyamoto mentoring these young developers, I have faith that the company will be in good hands when he retires or passes or whatever happens where he leaves the company. There will never be another Miyamoto, that's for sure, but maybe we can have a new innovator and icon to lead the charge when Miyamoto is gone.

Actually, I don't think this is an R&D department. I'm pretty sure Nintendo had one long before Garage. This is a legitimate development studio.
