Warning - ^ This guy geeks out a lot and swears a little bit.
The video starts a minute in.
What is the appeal of this? You just sit and look around, where is the interaction? I am really at a loss to explain what the appeal of this is. You wear a screen on your face, and 'ride' around in a boat?

I don't understand, either. He must be using the word played very loosely.

The New Virtual Reality - empty hype?
All gaming innovation starts with humble beginnings. Oculus VR and Sony are trying to make virtual reality the next big thing in gaming on PCs and consoles, respectively. Most gamers are skeptical, but they were also skeptical of polygons instead of sprites, controller changes, using touchscreens and styluses, and waggle/motion gaming.
Personally, I don't know what's so wrong with a traditional controller. But hey, no one asked me.

It's not really empty hype, it's just another complaining thread.

Yes, I can see how you would come to that conclusion from one stinking video. Or...... OR..... you could look at all the other videos out there, like the one of the PS4 version of this machine which uses... (gasp) a controller!!! There is your answer! Thread over! I think the obvious point of it is to provide a demonstration of what the virtual world would look like, and I'll bet you would eat your words if you were actually wearing the thing and having the world literally follow your glances like that. And once you add a controller to the mix.... surprise!! You have a game. Duh.

I don't think I can really judge this until it actually comes out. It seems interesting but could easily turn out bad. Hopefully it is good though.

I'm guessing none of us are going to wait before dismissing VR?
Doesn't surprise me in the least.

Meh, i'm not really interested in this thing, Kinnect for all it's shortcomings dosen't force you to wear an unwieldy and uncomfortable looking pair of goggles, so thanks but no thanks, i'll pass.
