Far less than there are awful licensed games now. I could come up with ten truly bad ones max for the Genesis, whereas almost half the DS library is this garbage. That's unprecedented.

The moment that Disney no longer makes money off generic pop stars for teenagers is the moment you'll be right. Marketers aren't stupid, they know what kids want and will tolerate and, hence, bad licensed games.
Kids having bad taste in everything is my observation, and you can't prove or disprove that if you tried. Not everything needs to be "fact".

The growing generation gap???
It is interesting because of the extremes.
Console gaming right now is in many ways a vanity of excess.
First of all, in story. That is 'the point' of many of these AAA games, and a reason why they have such blaoted budgets and why they have often have very similar scenarios and predictable gameplay. This is the trap of yearly iteration cinematic games.
Then you have the trap of 'everything but the kitchen sink' sequels - every game has to be made bigger and more bloated then the previous - Smash Brothers is a good example. The core group of fighters stays in, but they keep adding more and more fighters to it with each game. And what pint do you stop and say - enough? Can less be more? Can you make a tighter game, more balanced, and get it to market faster and with far less cost? Can you ever fulfill fanboy expectations in any case?
Then you have the 'bastard' console game - like Titnafall. Full price at retail, online only. No single player campaign No local mulitiplayer. Many games are a variation of this model, no longer a console game, quite, and yet super expensive to play.
Another excess is 'graphics over everything' games. Look at Ryse. Impressive visuals, pedestrian gameplay.
At the end of the day, especially with the deaths of many mid tier publishers this past gen, there is a huge middle ground in console gaming that is only occupied by some indies, which is frankly, their appeal. Lower cost, less frills, game concept and gameplay. But these games ar eonly known and played by enthusiasts, they do not reach the mass market of console buyers or the mobile players.

Pacguy19- Wasn't trying to "fool" anyone, i'm merely saying you can't state an "observation" as if it's a fact, kids do not in fact have awful taste in everything and you can't dispute or prove that yourself. There are definitely more then 10 awful licensed games for the 16-bit consoles. I for one honestly like those so-called "generic" pop-stars(at the very least they're better then the likes of One Direction and Justin Bieber)

It's a fact that One Direction should get their own video game. Something like Shaq Fu may be worthy of their greatness. At the very least they should get a Guitar Hero game.

I have to agree with Vexer, those are some pretty big generalizations. I mean, if you're going to say that kids enjoy crap, then teenagers also enjoy crap, based on how popular the godawful Blood On The Dance Floor is with that demographic, and adults also enjoy crap. After all, it's not kids that are buying Nickelback's awful albums or selling out their awful shows.
Plus, there were many, many licensed crap games during the 16 Bit Era, and that's my favorite era of all time. I hope I don't come off as a jerk, but you can't say that games, for example, got objectively worse from 1995-2005, as that's completely subjective. Some would tell you that's their favorite time for gaming. Hell, the 5th and 6th Generations are my 2nd and 3rd favorite generations respectively.

Yeah, for once I agree with Vexer. I really don't think there was that large of an influx of terrible games from the early 90's compared to today. The DS was brought up but really, how many original game boy games are really that amazing? If we're talking a dumping ground for games, what about the Sega CD (1991), Phillips CD-i (1991), Jaguar (1993), and 3DO (1993)? Those consoles were dumping grounds for terrible games, especially the Jaguar and Phillips CD-i. Those consoles all came out before '95. I'm not saying that there aren't terrible games for each console, because there are, but the poor games seem more specific to the console they are on more so then the year they came out.

I am sure he did read it. And then put forth his idea as to why your generalization did not make a whole lot of sense.
Considering how bad 'adult' gaming often is, I do not think you have a point, either.
As far as your earlier statement as to why anyone would care what kids bought, well, I think the market cares, because that is a major reason why it is struggling, and some game devs are going to where the kids and mommies and daddies are, and dividing resources, or relocating resources. Like Tron said, maybe you do or do not care, but it is happening....
