Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition

Postby Tron1 » December 4th, 2014, 9:51 am

Maybe about 2 years ago or so I got this game on the Xbox 360 & was extremely disappointed. Slow down was unbearable, freezing of the game & save files not loading. I thought I'd never try the game again, but....... I've been playing it for the last couple of months.

I had to reinstall it onto my hardrive, because I had deleted it last time. I'm thrilled to say that the game has been playing great. There is very little to no slow down & that was the issue that bugged me the most. I've had the game freeze a few times, but I can deal with that. I think lowering my expectations also helps with that, but really its not that big a deal. I still have save files not load on occasion, but having multiple save files can be used to combat that. On one occasion I had 3 save files not load. Luckily the 4th one did. When I play the game I pretty much use 1 or 2 save files, but when I'm ready to turn it off I use 4 save files back-to-back just to make sure.

SPOILERS AHEAD
The promise of being able to get my character to level 50 was just too much of a temptation for me to ignore. So far I've played the DLC Dead Money & Honest Hearts. DM was challenging & even frustrating at times. You're in a toxic environment and constantly losing health. On top of the toxic environments there are Super toxic areas where you need to move fast. Plus you're wearing an explosive collar that is triggered by radio signals. Getting and finding the radios can be hard and frustrating. I died more times playing this DLC then I did throughout the entire rest of the game! Still all & all I enjoyed it. I almost quit though it was so tough. I think the worst part actually was that the entire area is engulfed in a red fog which is super ugly and difficult to see in. I also thought the enemies were pretty generic and uninteresting. The Ghosts had no personality & the holograms were just stupid. So what I liked was that the setting & buildings were pretty cool even though the red fog was ugly. The NPC's were interesting. I thought Dean Domino was awesome. Dog/God was good, but I thought the voice acting for him was a little bland. I liked the Mute until she started talking. I enjoyed acquiring unique items like the armor. I learned to enjoy the challenge & I liked being able to meet Father Elijah. I thought they tied him into the DLC well.

The best thing about Honest Hearts is the environment. Its like a tropical paradise with fresh water in plentiful streams and an abundance of food with no rads. After playing DM this was exactly what I needed. I liked killing the tribals, but I disliked both of the NPC's. They never shut up. Now that I think about the DM NPC's never shut up either. Just carry my stuff, try not to get killed, stay out of my way & SHUT UP! I liked seeing Joshua Graham. I liked how the game was able to change my opinion of him. When I first saw him I couldn't wait to kill him, but as the game progressed I almost thought about letting him live. I also liked how this DLC made rare items in the main game more abundant. Cave Fungus & Broc Flowers aplenty.

So I'm glad I gave this game another chance. If you've been turned off by this game because of the technical issues maybe uninstall & reinstall it until it fricken works.
