I fail to see the humor whatsoever, and I don't see how trying to test people with that post added anything to this thread whatsoever.

We get all sorts of opinions here and I actively invite people to critique my reviews.
If you want uncensored commentary, check out the comments on any YouTube video. Have fun.
I do enjoy YouTube comments. They are genuine & not restrained. Yes many are ignorant & repulsive, yet they are a true reflection of the posters feelings. Here we have to watch what we post or it will not be approved. In actuality we have to be PC on these boards, because what may be offensive is not PC.
Is not allowing ignorance ignorant?
You complain of PC, yet you have become a part of it. You have conformed your reviews to appease those that are offended. Accept it or fight it, but to state that it bothers you on one end & then support it on another puzzles me.

Rational people pick their battles. The rest of the time they gripe, they do the minimum to comply, and they find small ways to push back or undermine it. Most Americans do this every April 15th when they file their tax returns.

This is easy. It's your board. Do what you like. But if readers complain, try to be open minded and consider their feedback. But it's up to you to decide what to do with it.
This is my favorite board in part because its heavier moded that other boards I visit (most TheGearPage). I love that posts are screened and approved before they can be seen. Helps me to not waste my time on junk posts with no substance, and yall do a good job of allowing heated discussions, but removing the personal stuff.
Yeah, "free boards" or formats like YouTube comments may be genuine, but often, people are genuine idiots and make the internet community look dumb. I'm cool not being bothered with that.

Interesting topic.
Political correctness is like a cancer. What might have started as a good thing is now pretty much everywhere. Is it a necessary evil, which needs to be enforced the moment various communities from different cultures, ethnics, sexual orientations... are supposed to live together? In other words, is it politeness on a superior level? Without politeness, society, any society is doomed to crumble. We're a violent species, after all.
While we may feel uneasy with PC on various levels, most of the heavier criticism will come from the extremes, pointing out how PC people, or people labelled as PC, are actually hypocrites. That's one of the ways they attract people. If most of us live in a PC environment, read, hypocrite environment, wouldn't we want to escape from that and exchange with genuine, truthful people? That's kinda of their stance. Their ABC logic will attract the masses. Words are so powerful, especially if you don't take the time... to think?
I tend to keep my own personal opinions to myself and people I can trust. They're not PC, nor are they extremes. Rather, they're easy to misunderstand. They're, after all, personal. I do have to talk with all kinds of people while being at work, and I often disagree. People don't know how to keep to themselves anymore. The internet gave a voice to people who didn't necessarily have much to say, and, in turn, the same happened in real life. There's no turning back from there. Yet, not all opinions are being made equal. Self control is key.
I understand how some people might fall for simplistic views, read "extremes". It's pretty sad and can only lead to more problems down the road, yet it does show how much our society is lacking. Our PC society.
Be yourselves, guys. Educate yourselves. Resist the times. You don't have to be binary, unless you're a computer. You don't have to be PC, nor do you have to be extreme, left or right, whatever. Those are stickers you'll have a hard time taking off.
You can be a superhero and try to change things (good luck with that, chances are you're DC or Marvel owned, LOL!), you can be Uatu the Watcher (oh wait... he got killed recently). You can open a book from older times, it will help relativize. Do we miss older centuries?

Like I said in my previous post, people argue over labels without defining what is meant by them. In this case, it's a long thread about being politically correct without even an example of what it means to each person.
The original post mentioned digital downloads vs. physical media, but I don't see how that has any relevance to being politically correct. That's more of a personal preference and I think everyone is entitled to their own preference on that.
I'm not sure if anyone saw it recently in the news, but there was a very racist Dr. Seuss drawing up for auction using a phrase that 100 years ago was fine, but today if you said this you would basically be outcast:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigger_in_the_woodpileAnd there's good reason. It's a racist term originating back when a group of people were beaten and enslaved for their entire lives based on skin color.
Without defining what exactly it means to be politically correct, it's difficult to have a debate over it. In a lot of cases you really need to think about what you say though and what group of people it affects if it's generalizing a group of individuals.
