Give an inch - they'll take a mile.
This, my friends, is the curse of Internet connectivity.
A Pandora's Box if there ever were one.

I wanted to download updated rosters for MLB 15: The Show. Had to wait for a ten minute system update. Really? This is a handheld! What if I wanted to load my season before I had a train to catch?

There's people on other forums who think I'm insane when I say consoles going online was the worst thing to ever happen to them.
As for the installing, that's really a function of how big games are now and how they need to stream assets while playing. They are often optimized to stream some assets from disc and some from hard drive at the same time. It's sort of a necessary evil until a new optical drive format in invented, or some other physical format comes about.
Of course, the companies would prefer you go all digital so you don't own anything and have giant install times for everything.

Patches are a double-edged sword, on the other hand it's good that it's now possible to fix games, whereas in previous generations(I.E. before the seventh generation) if a game released with bugs, there was no way to fix it, developers would have to re-release the game(like with what happened with Devil May Cry 3, where in the original release normal mode was actually the Japanese hard mode, so you had to wait for a re-release just to be able to play the game as originally intended) to fix it, patches are certainly convenient in that regard. However like others have said, it makes certain developers think they can get away with releasing broken games as long as they get fixed later, though that's far less likely to happen on Steam now that they have a refund system, so developers are likely not going to want a repeat of Arkham Knight and do anything they can to avoid, which means either putting more effort into PC ports or deciding against doing them altogether.
Overall despite some annoyances like microtransactions, I do think modern gaming is pretty good, and i'm glad i'm not nearly as negative about it as most people on here, if I was i'd probably go nuts.

I don't get why people are comparing the Xbox One and PS4 to PC and calling them less powerful PCs, I don't really see the comparisons, consoles are still a very different animal.
Tron-Giving advice is somehow offensive? that makes no sense. BTW, I really don't care if you don't like me or not(the feeling is entirely mutual I assure you), i'm certainly not going to stop posting just because of that, so if you don't like it, then oh well. I do not recall ever making any such arrangement in the past.
You think because you have an opinion you're entitled to spew it however you want. A respectful person understands that opinions should come with restraint. You're like Jar Jar Binks; "I speak so I must be intelligent".
Once again we've both acknowledged that we don't like each other. The simple solution I purposed before was that we ignore each other's posts, but of course you can't do that because you don't understand how to be respectful. That of course is why I don't like you, a vicious circle with no end.
Imagine someone you neither like nor respect gives you advice, would you want it? Of course not, no matter if the advice is sound or not the source itself is repulsive. That is how giving advice can be offensive.

I like when people are passionate about defending their viewpoints, but both of you guys have a tendency to take personal dislike to people who disagree with you. If you guys really thing you have something serious enough to quarrel about, I recommend taking it to the PM space. Let's keep this forum from becoming a nasty place.

Tron-You're not sounding very intelligent yourself right now.
Am I supposed to be impressed by your insults?(comparing me to Jar-Jar, was that seriously the best you could come up with?

)
I have to take advice from plenty of people I don't like or respect at work, but I deal with it, as should you, and as someone who knew many kids who were actually mentally retarded, I simply won't stand for people using that word incorrectly, and if you have a problem with not being able to throw that word around all the time, then I don't know what to tell you. So no, I don't see how giving advice in that instance is offensive at all, if it offends you, then maybe you should examine yourself more closely.

I immediately took the console offline to avoid that garbage.
Were you signed in with your gamer profile? I had Mortal Kombat X prompt me for the same information but it turns out it was because I had signed into Live on a different console. All I had to do was sign back in on my home console (It shouldn't prompt you for any information as the associated email and password are stored locally).

Yeah that does seem weird, i've never been given an email prompt for any of the Xbox games i've played.
