Yeah I guess it sort of would have the same effect as the bitters...it works though. I guess I don't like having the orange and cherry muddled/smashed at the bottom of the glass. You can also rim the glass with the gently squeezed orange peel to get some of the oils/citrus notes on the top of the glass. It just keeps it nice, simple and clean. Tastes alright too!
