As for the controller, why arbitrarily change what doesn't need changed? There's a comfort in having similar controllers from generation to generation. Feeling the need to constantly change has, in my opinion, hurt Nintendo. If the last generation taught me anything, it's that fun comes first, and I honestly had more fun with the PS3 than the other two.
I'm in the opposite camp as I agree with the Critic about the controller, I've always hated the Dualshock 1 through 3 and was pleased to see the refreshing changes Sony made to the Dualshock 4. I've always despised the triggers on the Dualshock compared to the Xbox, Sony's triggers were especially terrible for racing games. I always felt that the analog sticks were spaced too close together and too close to the d-pad/face buttons and I hated the Dualshock's stupid huge convex tops on the analog sticks. The Dualshock 4 is the first Sony controller I've enjoyed since the original non-analog/non-dualshock Playstation controller. I like the Dualshock 4 better than the Xbox One gamepad and in the last generation I thought the 360's was the best gamepad ever conceived. Now, the Dualshock 4 is my favorite controller. I love the size, the weight, the feel, the triggers, how the analog sticks are spaced further apart then the previous Dualshocks, the D-pad, it is practically perfect. My only real complaint with it is the poor battery life compared to the Xbox controllers.
True what you say though, fun comes first and the PS3 is a fine console. The Dualshock 3 just turned me off so bad my PS3 has seen most of its life being used as a media/BluRay/Netflix player. I might get around to playing some of the free PS Plus games on it now that I have PS Plus and you can use the Dualshock 4 with the PS3.
I have an opinionated bone to pick with the PS3 review

The Dualshock 3 did change though in that first it tried to compete with the Wii by throwing in the completely unnecessary Six-Axis motion gimmick, which people quickly lost interest when it became that it was not very good as a method for control in games like Lair. Also the Dualshock was considerably lighter and felt much more flimsy compared to the dualshock 1 and 2.
