I remember getting NG when it first hit NES. As a kid, I could make it to the last stage with little effort (though I never beat it). Now, I can barely pass the second act lol. Same goes with games like TMNT and Battle Toads. I used to be able to get really far on those as a kid, but can barely get past the first few levels now.

Recently I used the built in cheats on my Retron 5 to beat both NG and TMNT. Though it wasnt a fun as completing the games myself, it was still nice to see the ending to games I have had for over two decades.

OMG, the Japanese "Ninja Gaiden III" is SO MUCH EASIER. I played it for the first time tonight and I finished it in a few hours. Mind you, I've never even made it past the third act in the American version. The inclusion of a password feature for a game this relatively easy is silly.

I think this is the NGIII that the Critic would have wanted. It doesn't even get frustrating until near the end, as it wouldn't be Ninja Gaiden without a tough final act. He should give this one a try.

When you take into account all the NES games out there that you wish had a password feature but don't, it is kind of comical that this one actually does have one.

I was thinking that too, but I'm not sure if the Critic uses emulation at all, and I know for sure that he doesn't review any games using emulation. So unless he acquires a Famicom to NES adapter - which I imagine he doesn't have since he has never reviewed any Japanese games - I suppose we will never see a review for this one.

Anybody play the NG Trilogy on SNES? How does it compare to the original?

People usually complain about the music being worse than the original versions. There are a few minor changes for the worse. Like in NG2, there is a level that is very dark but that periodically illuminates so you can see where you're going. In the SNES version it just stays illuminated. There is a scrolling background in NG3 that is missing in the SNES version. The SNES versions are slightly cosmetically upgraded and have a password feature.

Here is a thread from NintendoAge about the differences. Opinions are generally negative towards the SNES trilogy. You might want to stick to the originals. http://nintendoage.com/forum/messagevie ... did=151253

I think they should have made a brand new "Ninja Gaiden" for the SNES comparable to "Super Castlevania IV" and "Super Ghouls n Ghosts". That could have been amazing. Weird that that there was no new NG until the XBOX.

Thanks. I'm looking to pick up a NES sometimes soon and NG will be my first purchase. I've been watching speed runs of the trilogy, which is something I'd like to give a try.
