The Video Game Critic

Hey critic, just want to let you know that I have a game I highly recommend; Wario Land 4 (GBA)

You don't need to play the previous entries of the Wario Land series to play/enjoy this one. This is a basic 2D/action platformer with a twist; You have to travel to the end of a level to hit a switch, then race back to the beginning of the level, where a warp will help you complete the level (it's way more fun than it sounds due to the clever level design).

The game plays beautifully. Each level has its own gimmick/layout, so you'll never see the same level layout twice, the puzzles are creative, the game saves your high score, the boss fights are challenging but fun, and there's plenty of hidden items to find in each level.

I cannot recommend this game anymore, Critic. I strongly recommend you go after it as soon as possible and play it. It's an underrated classic in my opinion, and should belong in your GBA collection.

I second this one. Not sure how the Critic will respond to the high pressure escapes, given his passionate hatred for Majora's, but this acid trip of a game really shows off what the GBA could do in the right hands.

I bought this game back when it was brand new, it's excellent. It has a beautiful art style, and I love the offbeat sense of humor the game offers. A game with this kind of humor and art feels very rare today. I didn't feel too much pressure during the timed escapes, the game is pretty forgiving on that front.

I love WL4 as well. It was one of my first gba games and I played the heck out of it. I really loved the homerun mini-game. I replayed the game on my psp (hacked) about a year ago and it is definitely not nostalgia, as I liked it a lot then as well. Great game.

I think personally WL4's is easier to master than Majora's Mask. MM is a very complex game that needs an acquired taste to appreciate and enjoy. Definitely not for everyone.

WL4's time scenarios on the other hand aren't bad at all once you get used to it. It sounds like tedious backtracking, but WL4 actually opens up new paths and alternate routes whenever you hit the frog switch. Trust me, the level design is amazing, not to mention extremely clever.

I never really understood why this game got a bad rap in comparison to WL2/3. I've barely played WL2 to give a reaction, but WL3, while very fun, can be extremely confusing and frustrating due to all the backtracking.

Wario Land 4 makes up for that by focusing more on platforming. Perfect balance of platforming and the exploration of Wario Land 3. All in all, it's kind of short, but there are so many hidden areas and items, and the creativity of the more challenging difficulty settings more than makes up for the game's length.
