I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to purchase any remastered or reissued games for the rest of my life. Be it upgraded, Game of the Year editions, remixed, collections, super-duper-we-really-mean-it-real-best-version, etc.
The industry is SO stale, and I don't care if people missed the original version, or even if I missed playing it, I'm not going to support this practice. If the game is old, then sell it in an emulator on your console. If it can't be emulated, then it's too damn new to be remade in the first place. Developers need to start using their resources to come up with something new, and I don't care if they use outside companies, those companies could be doing something better too. The end.

Re: Boycotting all remasters and reissues
Companies who've released broken or sub-par ports are already yielding their future plans in selling remasters. Sure there's a couple new ones to be released but we're going to have a slow down like we had after years of crappy arcade ports. Anyone remember the piss-poor excuse of arcade collections on the Xbox 360 and PS3? Yeah, I'd rather forget them too...
It's sad that I can only enjoy Master Chief Collection's campaign when the rest of it all seems cruelly underdone still. It's not as bad as before, it runs decently, but it right now does not justify a repurchase and far less for a person who already has the original copies.

Meh, I like remasters if I don't own the console the original is on. Like when I finally get a Wii U, I'll happily buy Windwaker HD instead of the original version. And things like the Final Fantasy VII remake are awesome, because that game came out almost twenty years ago. I'm psyched to see it reborn in our current technology!

Yup, and look at what all the console bundles come with.
- Halo Collection
- Uncharted Collection
- Rare Replay
- Gears of Wars Remaster
They're basically stuff to put in a bundle instead of new games.

The problem, as Hardcore said, is a lot of these have some serious problems. Wind Waker HD wasn't too bad, but Nintendo added a ridiculous amount of bloom to the game. I don't see why they needed to do that. The Dolphin emulation on PC in HD looks better.
Final Fantasy VII is coming out in "episodes", another thing I hate. So you'll wait until 2017 to play one part, 2018 to play the next, etc, etc.

Re: Boycotting all remasters and reissues
I loved Resident Evil 4 (PS4). Beat it and the two Ada episodes.
I got bored w/ Bioshock 1 (PS4) after an hour.
I loved both games on PS2, Gamecube & Xbox 360.
The upgrade for Bioshock was unnoticeable to me. While RE 4 visuals looked sharp.
Also I think it's gameplay. bioshock combat is lacking. I want to block the thug splicers & melee. RE4 feels right. I play with the knife a lot so I can consume all my herbs.
I'm going to get Skyrim. I may even get an Xbox One just to play it. PS4 won't have mod support. The only mod I want is a "No Essentials" so all muthascratchers can die.
Btw: I'm waiting for GTA 5 to load on my PS4. Frickin forever!

Re: Boycotting all remasters and reissues
I agree with many of these points. I never played The Last of Us on the PS3, but my wife wanted to get the remastered version on the PS4. Whether or not we would have gotten the PS4 version had we played the original is hard to say.
I would love if the remastered versions has more to offer. For example, the Ocarina of Time port to the Gamecube had the Master Quest, and that really made it worthwhile. I wish they would have done that with Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. Those two offered very little that their original counterparts didn't.
What I would also love is if Nintendo kept on releasing new "master quests" for all the Metroid, Mario, and Zelda games. They could put them for download on the 3DS or Wii U.
But I do think that a mere HD version with little else to offer from the original is rather tacky.

A lot of these remasters are garbage. I do enjoy the remasters of retro games, like Duck Tales for example. But giving a slight graphical update to games that are a few years old to market them on your new system that doesnt allow backwards compatibility seems like a sad cash grab to me.
